Can anyone make sense of the following code? I have found out that it is called a "grid code" where the letters are aranged something like this:

AB*CD*EF
********
GH*IJ*KL
********
MN*NO*PQ

* ST *
UV * YZ
* WX *

But it still doesn't come out right. Anyone have any ideas? I think its supposed to be a location perhaps in log/lat.

Does the answer have anything to do with there being an extra N and a missing R?

I have no clue how to decifer "grid codes", so other than that, I can't be of much help.

Nope, actually I made some typos in the first grid I typed. (Even with the wife doing proof reading for me!)

Actually I just figured it out, with some help from my step son.

Here is the grid that makes it work:

a*b*c
*****
d*e*f (Looks like a tic tac toe grid)
*****
g*h*i

For the ones with dots:

j*k*l
*****
m*n*o (Looks like a tic tac toe grid)
*****
p*q*r

*s*
t * v (Looks like an X with the letters in the spaces)
*u*

For the ones with dots:

*w*
X * Z (looks like another X)
*y*

Using the above decryption key. (using the shapes to show spots on the grids) it decodes to:

pages.rtcomm.net/kholland/coords with is the location of the geocache I was looking for!

For those of you new to geocaching please take a look at: geocaching.com (http://www.geocaching.com)

Looks like I will be out hiking in the morning!

Here is the actual cache I was looking for:

Ahhh, my GF does geocaching on occasion. Eventually, I'm going to have to get her her own GPS location finder doohickey thing so that she can go more often.

They have come down in price quite a bit in recent years. You can get a basic model garmin etrex for around $99.00 which is more then enough for geocaching use. It doesn't support maps that show things like roads, but for basic hiking/geocaching it is more then enough.

Even the nicer etrex models that support details maps are under $200.

My wife and I have only been doing this since the Friday after Thanksgiving because Target had a good price on the Etrex Venture for "Black Friday". Since then we have searched out and found around 20 different caches. Not to mention all the exercise and seeing areas around where we live that we didn't even know existed.

Hmmm... you've actually got me movitated now too. I think I might suggest going on some hikes with my GF. I'll have to let her pick up the GPS tracker though... she likes to choose her own things. :hmm:
