was anyone watching the Indiana-Kentucky game today?
if so, you saw Indiana coach Mike Davis absolutely lose it at the end of the game. even if you missed the game, i'm sure espn will be replaying it every 15 minutes for the next week or so.
anyway, it surprised and shocked me for several reasons.
1.) it was absolutely out of control, which seems very out of character for mike davis.
2.) it was so utterly stupid. IU was down by 1 when the supposed "non-call" that davis was protesting occurred. kentucky had recovered the ball, and IU and fouled to stop the clock with 2.6 seconds remaining. even if kentucky went down and made both free throws (hardly a given, with how poorly they were shooting from the line), IU would be down by 3 with 2.6 seconds to go. they still had a timeout, so they could inbound the ball (or collect a rebound if the second free throw missed), call time, then run a sideline out of bounds play for a winning 3. not a perfect scenario to face, but running onto the court and getting 2 techs was even worse.
not to mention that the ref wasn't going to change the call....
3.) why the hell didn't the assistants or players or someone drag him off the court?
it just didn't make sense to me. i've admired mike davis since he's taken over indiana's program, but I don't understand why he did something so stupid and out of control.
as a side note, billy packer (who called the game for CBS) was comparing it to Iowa State's Larry Eustachy blowing up during the Elite Eight game vs. Michigan State in 2000. however, in that situation, the game was already far out of reach. Eustachy's blowup added a little padding to the final margin, but it didn't determine the game. in tonight's game, what David did caused his team to not have a chance to win :(
