i need to get ram for an older comp. it says that it can use pc100 sd ram 168 pin but can i use pc133 instead? i vaguely remember hearing that i can, but it just underclocks itself.

yeah, there shouldn't be any problems. I'm using pc133 in my computer that runs with the 100mhz fsb, and pc100 in the comp with the 66fsb.

i recently bought some micron branded PC133 for a friend's PC100 machine, and it didnt' work. When we caleld the company to RMA it, they took the Mobo info and said that we needed a different chip configuration. the ram we got to start off with had a 32M configuration, while we would need a 16M chip configuration. Dont know exactly whats different but whatever, the new one they sent works fine.

So , you mgiht want to check your Mobo specifications before you buy PC133.
good luck

It happened to me @ work with a Compaq P3 700Mhz (133Mhz FSB). I don't want to go through the hassle with the IT department so I installed my used 256MB PC133 RAM but the computer doesn't see the memory. I then used an older 128MB PC100 and the computer saw it!
