Hey fellas, I am going to get playstation 2 and am wondering if any of you guys know where to preorder it for cheap. I was thinking of buy.com and using like a $50 off 200 coupon but I wasn't sure if one existed or even a $50 off 250 or something. If there are none or if you guys know of a place to get it cheap would you please tell me.

OK, this is ri-god-damn-diculous. I became interested in buying a PS2 this morning. Do you realize that most places out there are completely sold out till after Christmas? IT'S FREAKING AUGUST!!!! The only places I could find were KBKids, who are selling it above retail ($329) and Toys R' Us ($299), who, according to a CS rep, still have fewer pre-orders than units ordered from the manufacturer. This is crazy. Hello, Furby, all over again.

Ok, took the plunge, I just said fuc# it, I can always just ask for cool add-ons for Christmas, and I want one pretty bad, I don't have a DVD player, I don't have another system, I'm kind of killing two birds with one stone here.

I have two PlayStation 2's on pre-order. I made Software Etc. start a pre-order sign-up sheet back in May of 1999 after I came home from 1999's E3 convention and played GT2000 on a hidden PS2 system. After I played I was interviewed by several Japanese reporters. I was lucky to know a few Sony people that I race with. So I am first on the list for that store.

But I became discouraged because they didn't even call at all to confirm or anything... two days before E3 2000 started, I pre-ordered another PS2 from their online shop gamestop.com on May 11.

Try gamestop.com, for some reason I get the feeling that they'll be able to fill up the pre-orders quicker than anyone... at MSRP. But don't take my word for it.

Believe official release date is October 26. NSX... why did you order from both gamestop.com and Software Etc.? They are one in the same except gamestop is partnered with both Software Etc. and Babbages.

I did it because I needed some kind of confirmation/guarantee (?!) ... there was no confirmation from Software Etc.

Agreed, I saw it at E3 2000. It was awesome!

I sure hope that the PS2 does good. I've talked to a couple developer friends of mine and they said that the PS2 is much harder to develop than all the other platforms... and it might hurt the PS2's success. They all agreed that the original PSX success was because it was so easy to program on.

Guess you haven't seen the writeups on the Xbox. But that's a whole different thread. Until the Xbox comes out, does anyone know a good deal a the Dreamcast console? That would be a good interim system for my kids between the N64 they have and the Xbox. Too bad the pirates hacked a boot disk and are now able to rip Dreamcast games to CDR. Ruination of the whole industry. If someone had a burner and broadband access they could really build up a pile of games.
