i use Direct Connnect to download files off internet.

After I installed a router at home, Direct Connect won't work.
I tried to put it in the passive mode and enabling DMZ on my router.
Neither worked.
Can you give me any advice?

For Direct Connect to work properly in active mode (which is the mode that you most want to use), you'll need to take care of a few things:
First, make sure that you are forwarding port 412 to your LAN IP (something like 192.168.1.101 if you are using the default DHCP settings) in your router configuration settings. If you're not sure what your LAN IP is, run "ipconfig" in a command/DOS session at the prompt.
Next, in the Direct Connect connection settings, force Direct Connect to report to your WAN IP (your external IP address; if you're not sure what that is, go to www.whatismyip.com for a quick check). If your WAN IP address is dynamic, you will need to update this value every time it changes.
I believe that these are the only changes that need to be made to successfully use Direct Connect behind a router.
Good luck!

I had the same problem, Max Crapp, and I finally gave up and unplugged the router! Not to give up, if I go back to school next semester, I will set that up and let you know... I have some buddies that have worked through it.

I setup port 412 and 413 and forwarded my IP...and it connects and searchs, but now I get this message:
"Error: Too mayn files in sub tmrBgWork Timer_DC Should be restarted as soon as possible"

try giving your computer a static ip and set the port forwarding # to that specific ip. I've had trouble with dynamic ips and port forwarding before.

Through a router? How?

the router probably receives a dynamic ip from your isp, that you can't change, but you can alter the ips of your home network. This varies from router to router. Usally, you want to turn off DHCP and turn on static ips. Static ips have a range (usually xx.xx.xxx.1 to xx.xx.xxx.199 or whatever). When you do this save the settings (you might have to reset the router.)
Now go to your computer. Go to network settings and change it from dynamic to static. Now you will have to enter in all of the numbers that are usually supplied by DHCP (i.e. gateway and dns numbers; write these down before changing the router settings!) and give your computer a unique ip # that's within the range.
DHCP is usually used to make the administrators life easier. Since i'm guessing this is for a small network, aka your home, manually entering in the numbers shouldn't be a problem. Now when you do port forwarding you can set it for your computer's specific ip.
all else fails, reseting routers usually works.

You meant a hard IP on the individual computers? The router already does that. I though you meant get my IP to give each computer a static IP. Oddly enough, my ISP has assigned the same IP to my router each time I check, so that's not the problem.
I think the error is in Direct Connect itself. So, I take it no one else has seen this error? I don't suppose their is a file *maximum* that can be shared? I am sharing >10,000 files.

I notice it more when I am running two sessions of DirectConnect simultaneously. I think that it is just a glitch in the software, as it appears to function normally despite the reported "error".

Apparently so. Everything seems to keep working ok after the error message.
BTW: Does anyone else running Direct Connect have problems with the mouse locking clicks when using the slide bars in a search window?
