Ok, so I'm going to China tomorrow...

That's right... CHINA. Anyone who's been there have any tips like "Don't drink the water", etc?

I'll be going there with my wife-to-be and some of her family. She's been there each of the last two New Year's. This is the third of three trips that she's taking, and this time, I'm going with.

Bejing, Shanghai and Puo To San (Shan?)... those are the destinations.

Last time I went, my tour guide and parents said that you should always drink bottled water in mainland, but most water in HK should be fine. Have fun. :wavey:

Ummm...passwird...ALWAYS drink bottled water in hong kong. VERY DIRTY. Anywho...since I lived there most every summer. I would suggest drinking only bottled water. Or from a filterd sorce. Don't be worried that others stare at you because they can spot out a person from another country very easily. Plus they will stare even if they've known you forever. Chinese tend to stare a lot and don't realize that it is a rude thing to do. Know HOW TO BARGIN. Best thing to do is bring a close friend or family that knows chinese pretty well so that they can talk down and argue at the merchant till they sell low. And when you buy things...first thing to do is compare to the US prices. And know that most items in china are about 35%-45% less than most US products. Clothes mostly are in that range of cheapness (ie. name brand type clothes (but name brand shoes are not at cheap)) Eletronics are not at cheap thou still expect at least 10%-15% less than the US. Know that the first price that the seller is saying to you is WAY to high. go lower and lower...if you don't like the price at all...leave because you can ALWAYS find it close by where you can go back and forth between the 2 people and "pricematch" them. Also...another thing you should know socially...don't point. VERY rude to other chinese...always use all your fingers when you point. don't tell other chinese to come using the regular USA hand motions (ie. palm up while waving fingers towards yourself) to ask others to come...palm down and wave to fingers to yourself. I hope you get what I'm saying! Anywho...thats all I can think of right now...you have a fun time in China...it's a great place...peace out!

Hahah..I just came back from China on the 26th after being there a week and 1/2. I'm not really back as I'm in Taiwan still, but China was fun.

Since I've been to the big cities, our family went to Yunnan.

It was pretty interesting

-S/W China, bordering Vietnam, Tibet, Burma, etc.
-52 of the 56 chinese ethnic groups live there
- Started there at 6500 feet in Kunming, went to Dali and Li Jiang along the way.
-Got to climb up to 15000 feet (started at 7000 feet, got a little assistance part way up though). Canned oxygen was cool.
-Met some pretty cute girls.
- Took alot of neat pictures
- Picked up an authentic tibeten bell
- Get to say I went to "Shangri-La" since the area was considered it.
-Got to try various sour and spicy foods. Very different from normal Chinese cuisine.
-Visited Macau for a bit during our layover back.
- Got to eat the chinese- world famous Portugese Egg Tart straight from the source...hot and piping from the kitchen!

Dude...did you like macau? it was pretty fun there. Dude...while you were there, you should have dropped a word to me parents there. and since you don't know them...that would be kind of hard. Well anywho...those portugese tarts are soooooooo good. Anywho...glad you had a good time in macau. Peace out
