Terms of Endearment....

I have a habit of calling someone I care about...a dink...:D along with other pet names...its like a playful, fun name that just naturally spills from my mouth the most...always in fun...I never mean it to be mean...
Almost as if you were to say " you nut " in a playful manner...I say, " You dink "..:D

I'm sure someone out there has other names that won't make my "dink" look as bad, because I wonder sometimes that it bothers him more than he admits ... Anyone????????

When I was a kid, my parents used the word "turd" kind of like someone would use the word "rascal". Like this:

"Hurry up and get your shoes on, you little turd!"
"Now settle down in there, you turd!"

Well, when I had kids, I started to say that. My wife was shocked! In her family, that was a four-letter word as bad as any other. Needless to say, she has since reformed me...

My son recently informed me that he is now named Otto Rocket, so that is what we must call him.

I call my hubby "babe" and my DD is "pipsqueak" I don't call anyone else anything but their name.

My SO refers to me as "Scooby" or "Studmuffin" (said with a derisive tone-- she's usually upset about something when I hear that word). It's usually "Babe" or "Chick" for her.

"Dink" always keys to "Double-income-no-kids" for me. At least, that's the term people used to throw around.

"Of course Muffy and Scott got a new BMW again this year; what would you expect from a couple of DINKS?"

Depending on what term my friend considered to be close in definition to "DINK" (isn't DINK "double-income-no-kids" )anyway?
I would be hurt, I think if my friend were to change his/her normal name calling from the above, to "idiot/moron/ B word "
( having nothing to do with DD ):P ...
If my friend knew that the word "dink", coming from me, meant anything BUT derogatory, and my friend didn't have a habit of calling me anything but the nicey names from above to begin with, that my friend shouldn't all of a sudden change his/her term of endearment to match mine...then that would be called "being hurtful on purpose".

Now..if I called my friend a jerk or something really bad, then yes, by all means, call me something as bad back.....

So what you're saying is...because I am very close to this person, and this person doesn't like my term of endearment, that gives my friend the right to call me something derogatory...
and no matter what each of us does, it gives us each the right to "get that person back" in a similiar method...for what reason? to teach them a lesson?

Instead of saying.."hunny", it bugs me when you call me that...a game ensues...and its a tit for tat...like a vicious circle which continues on and on and on......now how nice is that? ughhhhhhhhh

I don't notice but my bf likes to point out how often I say "honey" to him and in return he makes fun of me by going yes "DEAR"? :P
