View Full Version : Why does IE keep doing this?

When I'm in a drop down menu, and I accidentally hit the backspace key, it goes BACK a page. I know it's a little weird, but backspace is second nature and I'd really like to stop IE from doing that. It makes some navigations a pain. (re-login probs)

its a keyboard shortcut. IE does that by default

The "problem" I have with IE is that no matter how many times I delete the "links" folder from Favorites it just keeps coming back. What's up wit dat?

Oh and I put problem in quotes because I'm sure Microsoft has this particular annoyance classified as a feature! All hail Lord Gates.

All hail Lord Gates. do you have another browser installed like netscape or opera? if so those browsers might import favorites into thier bookmark lists and then IE might import them back into favorites. if this is the case make sure they are deleted from all browsers

some tweak programs will let you disable this, but I'm blanking on the one I used. There is a reg setting to kill off the shortcut - I lost more news due to that damn shortcut. So you can fix it, but I don't currently remember how.

So long as the focus is on an HTML control, backspace will act as back space. When it is on any other element (body etc) then it will go back. So really this shouldn't be a problem if you make sure you are in a text field or something.

Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices-> Sounds Tab -> Windows Explorer -> Start Navigation.

Select "none". First thing I do when I reformat... I hate that friggen sound.
