i gotta say i'm with DF on this one. repeating jokes like that sucks. as for the special olympics joke, i didn't find it nearly as repulsive. while it's not their fault that they have problems, let's face it, it is a real problem that we're all glad we don't have. being black isn't a physical or mental obstruction. it only becomes a problem when people repeat jokes like this and perpetuate racism....and this comes from a very white guy.

Often, on these boards, I find the best course of action when you find something offensive is just to ignore it (you hope that people will recognize the ignorance of the poster and you sort of hope the thread dies on its own). That's usually what I try to do.

When it's offensive because it applies to someone's life (race, creed, familial situation), it's very hard to hold your tongue.

i just don't get how someone can be offended by a racial joke, but laugh at a joke about someone being retarded or physically handicapped.

either way, you are making light of something that is beyond a person's control. and there was a time when physically/mentally handicapped people had it pretty bad too. put in freak shows, etc. some cultures would kill handicapped children.

now i did think that joke was stupid, but not offensive. it just lacked all the elements of a good joke (wit, humor, creativitiy among others)

Well I wasn't offended ersonally by x1337x's joke, but I thought it was ignorant as hell. Burz's joke was very distasteful but not offensive to me(I was in the Army for 4 years I've heard way worse). Leet's joke was screwed up because only a rascist would think it was funny.

The OJ(Original Joke) was based on something that really sux just getting worse, hence, for myself at least, it was going from bad to worse in a funny way. Kind of like you get some gloves for someone with no hands. It's like a :rolleyes: joke.

The racist joke was essentially equating a black person to feces. Feces is funny in a physical form, but not when it's equated to someone. Unless you absolutely hate the person being equated to *****.

Well... correct me if I'm wrong but I have been under the impression that DF was black, Nickle was a female and that you're a male. I think that it is racist of DF to pick out the anti-black insult, and sexist of Nickle to have a problem with the problem that females face on this forum. I mean... it's not unexpected that that would happen... and I don't think any worse of them for it... they're definitely more fitting with social norms than I am so I'm probably the wierd one but to me it just points out that our society accepts sexism and racism in some form despite the efforts that we've gone through to get past them. Of course... I'm not any better. I've never gone out with a girl who wasn't oriental... :shrug:

Ok... let me clarify what I'm saying. I'm saying that on some level, it's racist for a black guy to stick up more for black issues and sexist for girls to stick up for female issues. It's socially acceptable and in this stage of our society's development probably necessary but racist and sexist respectively nonetheless. :shrug:

I really really hope I'm wrong. I try to treat different people fairly not because I'm worried about them kicking my butt but because it fits with my definition of what's right and what's wrong. Even if the mexican person didn't crack jewish jokes. If I told a mexican person two jokes an anti-mexican joke and an anti-jewish joke both of equally bad taste... isn't it racist of the mexican person to protest the anti-mexican joke and not the anti-jewish joke and vice-versa? That's interesting because I was once going to start a hot guys thread of my own and decided against it because of the backlash I would get (with females being the "minority" around here and all). And at the time, I was sort of "backlashed out".

Although, the guys can post all the T & A they want for all to see.

the black joke was nothing but hate. it's saying "i think black people are s***". that's not even cool.

I think the difference between the black preacher joke and other jokes in general is that other jokes are at least partially true. That joke just had hate. Other than that joke, we tend to be a bit too PC crazy (not to mention spelling crazy).
As for sexism complaints, I tend to think guys dislike looking at other guys more than girls dislike looking at other girls.

I never said that I liked any of the other ones either... however, that one particular joke IS more offensive to ME since it is directed at my race AND it makes a VERY derogative/hateful statement. I do, can, and will stand up for my own race in instances like that. Now I'm not saying that I can't laugh at other "race based" jokes... like talkin' about someone who's "ghetto" and such (those I find funny...), but that joke bascially equated "Blacks" with being feces... (I'll assume that the Priest part was the "holy" part or else the "religious side" of G|A may take up arms over callin' religion "feces")

I never said that you said that you liked the other jokes. In fact, you did mention that you found them all distasteful. I'm also not saying that you shouldn't be feeling what you're feeling. I'm just asking the question... isn't a black guy who sticks up for black issues preferentially being racist? (btw: feel free to replace the color and gender here). As for the intent behind the jokes... I doubt the intent behind any of the jokes were nice. I agree that my joke wasn't really a racial slur, but really offensive jokes usually aren't very funny so I don't remember them. To be honest, I doubt I'd remember any of these jokes a week later.

I personally don't post jokes "that specific" out here. 1) I wouldn't really tell any of these jokes in front of the people who might be the butts of the joke. Would you tell the handicapped ones in front of handicapped people? Same thing. Personally, I've had my butt kicked plenty of times (I never really did ever learn when not to talk)... I don't mind getting beat up so much... I'd rather just not deserve it.
