I was looking at CPU upgrades for an HP Pavilion zt1235 but I was wondering if the CPUs were manufacturer-specific or universal like some of the RAM? Would a Dell/IBM CPU work on an HP Pavilion and is there a way to check before purchasing?

Bought a USB CDRW and RAM upgrades.. is there anything else I should look at? I wanted a new video card but I can't seem to find a notebook video card though I guess it isn't common to upgrade that. I don't know why I didn't invest in a Dell to begin with.. though I do like the blue lights around the hotkey shortcuts..

Thanks for your time.. and if you know where I can get a video card for my notebook, please let me know :)

Sorry man - you may be SOL. Many notebooks components aren't designed to be upgradable, such as processor & video card. A very few newer notebooks use a mini-PCI card for video, and these you MAY be able to upgrade, but otherwise it's not possible. Most of the time the video is integrated onto the motherboard & the processor is soldered to the board.

some laptops actually can take an upgrade. the company i used to work for refurbished them. Many laptops have a ZIF socket on them. The tricky part was to open the system and to figure out how to change the clock. Some systems can jump a decent amount, but others are fixed.
