Anyone know of a way to display up/down speed of dsl connection without having to go to pcpitstop.com? On my dial up I used to be able to hold my mouse pointer over the connection icon at the bottom of the screen and it would let me know like 42kbs etc.:hmm:
Thanks
on win2k
right click on netowkr and dial-up connections
properties
there should be a little box that says "Show icon when connected"
put a check into it, and you should be good to go. :)

i think that will only show you the connection speed of your nic (or modem), packets sent and how long youve been connected. try net stat live (http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/nsl.htm) from analogx. it shows your up/down speed and more

If you're running XP, just press ctrl+alt+delete, go to the "networking" tab, and then go to View----select columns and make sure "bytes sent/interval" and "bytes received/interval" are checked.....then whenever you're surfing the net or downloading something it will tell you how fast you're going, also if you have it show the total bytes received and sent you can see, well, your total amount of bytes that you sent or received since the connection started. Hope this helps.

that shows utilization of a connection, for example NIC or modem dialup connection. i guess you could get the data transfer rate out of that, but its not a clear reading.
qeg84doa, if you do that mouse over thing, you are only going to get the connection speed. for example with your dialup connection you saw 42kbps, that was the connection. your download speed was likely a maximum of 12kbps, thats if you had a good connection. with that icon, your dsl connection will show either 10mbps or 100mbps, the speed of your NIC. i dont know of anything built into windows that will give you that data. that doesnt mean its not there, i just dont know about it.

by enabling the bytes sent per interval and bytes received per interval columns (providing your file transfer is relatively steady) it will show you your current Bps every second...that seems pretty clear :)

if you feel like getting an external software package, i use DUmeter (dumeter.com) and that does an awesome job. It can even make a little semi-transparent graph on your screen that maps out how much up.down traffic you are doing. its perty
