View Full Version : End of year thread: Tally up the dead parts!
Please list the PC parts that have died on you or have been killed (accidentally of course http://sbp777.homestead.com/files/wink2.gif)
Came down one morning to find my 19" NEC FP950 monitor was dead and out of warranty by a few weeks.
Talked with NEC on the phone. The guy said even though the monitor was out of warranty by 7 weeks they would still consider it under warranty and do a cross-shipment. Basically they shipped me a refurbished FP950 and I shipped back the old dead one. The only costs to me were shipping the old dead FP950 back.

Score one for NEC. I've heard of companies turning their back on consumers for days out of warranty. :thumb:

A dead USB 1.1 PCI card.
An Aureal Vortex PCI sound card (not supported by XP)

The only thing that died on my was my beloved 15" mitsu monitor. It had the sharpest display I have ever seen. I would take it over the 15" TFT I have at work. Very sad. I took it down to the dumpster yesterday, after 4 months of dust collecting. Replaced by a 21" Dell Trinitron.

I can't think of any parts dying on me in the past year. I've had parts die in previous years, but I've been lucky recently.

1x AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz T-bird :(
Winning a Athlon XP 2400+ made up for it
1x Geforce2 GTS :(
This was the one that I won from a contest here at G/A? when these cards first came out. I bent a few of the pins of one of the memory chips when I was prying off one of the memory sinks to fit it into my little shuttle box. It actually works in "dos" and safemode, but I guess when it goes into windows all the memory gets activated as it flashes a blue screen for a split second and reboots. It might be able to be fixed without too much trouble.
That's it. My list is pitiful compared to some of yours, but I guess that is a good thing. ;)

My computer monkey died. It was tethered to my computer and warded people off. It was a great security system for a while... cause after some time it slowed down and did less and less. after it died, I threw it back in the packaging and noticed it says on the packaging that i was supposed to feed it every now and then.
