For those of you lucky enough to be in a state listed, you can enter your phone numbers on the lists that will make it illegal for telemarketers to call you.

The Minnesota list just went into effect on the first of the year - although the companies have a 30-day "grace period" to implement the list. So no more telemarketers after the end of the month!
I read that over half of the phone numbers in the state have already been registered.
We have been getting a ton of telemarketer calls since the list was announced - especially from AT&T. Apparently one of the exceptions for telemarketers is they can call you if they have a "previous business relationship". I think these scumbags are trying their hardest to establish that "relationship" so they can continue to pester you.

How do we know this is a real thing...it's not anything ".gov" about it. I don't get it...I think this is just a scheme to get our phone # so that they know there is actually a person there!!!! I know their plans!!!

Direct Marketing Association Telephone Preference Service List. The DMA charges a $5 fee to be put on that list, which is used as an opt-out source by DMA members. (Note that all telemarketers are not DMA members.) See http://www.dmaconsumers.org/cgi/offtelephonedave
A lot of good info is available at http://www.dmaconsumers.org/

For 4.99 ( something like that) a month, just put a block on your phone...in order to get through, a name or a number has to show on your caller ID...if they still have to unblock by the normal *67, there's a recorder device that you have to state your name and gives YOU the option of accepting the call or completely blocking that particular number its coming from....
You also have the option of putting a special code number in for people who have private blockin on their own phones which is great for family & close friends to have...I know it cut my phone calls down to only those I know... :) ..and thats how I like it...worth every penny...

I heard that a new federal law requires telemarketers to display a valid caller id.

Telezapper is $30 at CostCo. Got one last night. My brother says his telemarketer calls have dropped to nothing in the past month using one.
It was that or an aluminum baseball bat, but the airline tickets would have been too expensive...

It went into effect at the end of January, and the calls dropped to almost nothing. I have noticed a few telemarketers are trying to get around it - they will call and ask you to take part in a survey. They are not selling anything, so their call doesn't violate Minnesota's "do not call" list. If you complete the survey, they will then consider they have a "prior business relationship" with you and can then call you all they want to sell their junk.
I knew those scum would find loopholes...
