hey guys, i dont know if this is the right place to post, so sorry if i offend any of you high strung folks out there. But i was just wondering if there were any remote controls for computers, not just speakers, but so i can control winamp/mp3 files and mpegs and stuff, that'd be friggin awesome. Do they even exist? Can they? Ah well.
you might want to have a look at x10.com (might be xten.com). I seem to remember them having something like that, and it's their kinda thing.

Hmm, not sure exactly where, but goto somewhere like egghead.com or cdw.com and do a search for remote trackballs or something to that extent. I know of phillips makes a remote thingy with a small track ball. There's also this thing called gyro mouse not sure who makes it. Sorry I can't be more specific, but there are a lot of wireless pointing devices.

http://www.x10.com/products/offer85.htm is what you want. It's called MP3 Anywhere and transmits your computer audio to your stereo. It has a remote that controls the RealJukebox software, as well as your TV, VCR, Cable box, Satellite dish and X10 lights. Plus it's only $50. A coworker has one and says it's great.
www.x10.com (http://www.x10.com) has a remote control, but I haven't used it. I found a logitech remote control on ebay for under 20 dollars. Its not too bad, its programmable. It has a mouse-type control on it, but its not real responsive. depends on what you use it for i guess.
The X10 Remote is great... highly recommended... but the software does suck.

Actually, the remote you're looking for is actually made by Evation. You can find their website at www.evation.com. (http://www.evation.com.) Anyways, they only sell an IR port that you connect to your computer's serial port, but the cool part is that you can use any of your existing IR remotes that you have lying around (those universal remotes come to mind). It's totally programmable and works w/ winamp, powerdvd, powerpoint, Hauppauge's (SP?) TV program, and a plethora of other stuff. I have the X10 all-in-one remote so my one remote currently controls my TV, Computer, Computer DVD (I have TV-out on my computer so I watch DVD's on my TV), CD Player, AND my lights! Cool huh? All you have to do to have functionality is download their free software, hook up the IR port, and configure your controls.
The one downside is that they ship from Finland or something (i don't quite remember, somewhere in Europe), so it takes about 2-3 weeks to get to you. If you look hard enough, you can find sites online that teach you how to build exactly what they're selling yourself with parts from Radio Shack, but I don't know if the software is compatible.
Sorry if this post is totally incomprehensible; it's late... good night.
