Ok here is the situation...
Cheerleading competition is coming up on March 9th. My girls are in desperate need of a DJ to mix a cd for them (they have 3 minutes on the floor-and must include 2 dances,2 cheers,3 different types of Tosses called Mounts, and 4 different jumps. Crowd participation is a HUGE factor-30 points of a 100 point total..the judges (13 of them) are all between the ages of 35-45 which means they won't (and never do) like the usual loud-obnoxious screechy cheerleading mix music that they hear year after year-This year, my kids have gone outside that perpetual box and will go for crowd/judge participation by doing a rousing selection of 80's disco tunes..(Play that funky white boy etc) since that would be the ultimate music of the judges glory days..
Problem:
All the Local DJ's are booked solid, and we can't even get one hour in to get them to do our cd for us..someone suggested downloading mixing software and taking a shot at doing one ourselves..I agreed to try it on the condition that if I can't get one easy enough to figure out, that they must go to the local high school and ask for help from the Audio Visual Department.
Does anyone know of a program that will allow me to overlap, fade etc..that you don't need to have a degree in brain surgery to figure out? And preferably one that is freeware,or shareware with COMPLETE features for a trial of more than 25 minutes that allows me to save to be able to burn to cd.Something user friendly for someone who doesnt have much patience would be great-
thanks in advance *looks at Mojo*!

Try www.mixmeister.com
You can download a free version for like 30 days.
I use it to mix songs together and you can't tell where one ends or begins really.

It automatically adjusts the volume and does beat matching so one song flows into the next one. Or you can have it fade out at the end of the song and fade in to the next song.

After you made your mix you can burn into a cd. You use mp3 and it will convert into a big wav file or seperate wav files. Use whatever cd-burning software and turn that option off where it puts breaks between tracks.

i dunno if this will meet *all* your needs, but i have used nero .wav editor with some success. it won't let you overlap or change the beats, but it gives you a very easy interface for cutting and pasting .wav files together, fading in and out, etc.

i got it with my cd burner.....you may have a similar program with whatever cd burner you have.

pm me tsck tsck

I'd recommend CoolEdit or Sound Forge. Both will let you take snippets of wav files and compile them into one master file with various effects.

oh, and for anyone interested...i've used cooledit and it's a lot like nero's wave editor. dopey does seem to have the goods as far as mixing stuffs. he's recommended stuff to me as well, but i'm experiencing...um...hardware limitations :P

If you get the professional edition or whatever the next upgrade is you can play the current selection and start listening and mixing ahead without stopping. I think it's worth the money if you buy the standard version.

The only thing about mixmeister I don't like is the wait when you import your mp3s. Cuz it automatically calculates the beats per minute of the song which is great but when you import a whole folder it takes like hours depending on how many songs you've got.
