Wow...once you get used to the camera changing it's angles, it's a really awesome game.

Devil May Cry has to be my favorite console game of all time... I'm sad to say even more than Chrono Trigger and all the final fantasies.. ok.. so I won't go that far, but it's pretty damn close.. The end of this month (Jan) marks a very important day for the PS2 as well.. The release of Devil May Cry 2.. god i can't wait..

Ok...here's a little review.

The map/levels remind me of those older PC adventure games where you have 20 hrs of entertainment built into a tiny little castle you explore. There aren't too many rooms, but you have to go back and forth battling creatures and triggering events that will allow you to take on the lord of the underworld. It's action based, but it has plenty of little puzzles to solve. You don't have a wide variety of weapons, but your hand to hand combat skills are upgradeable. You get a Devil Trigger gauge that allows you to go apecrazy for a limited amount of time, allowing sweet combos and cool special effects. Just when you finally get used to the battle system and feel like you're a pro, the game cranks up the difficulty with new monsters or changing the battle strategies.

I recently beat the game on normal difficulty, and it said to try "hard" mode. When I started the game, I saw that all the weapons and skills i had spent maxing out on Normal carried over. Wondering how much "harder" the game could get, I entered the castle where the game takes place. Not ONLY did they crank up the strength of the monsters (both in health and damage), they weakened your strength and it seems like they made you slower. Plus, enemies that you didn't see till the very end of the game show up in the first and second mission. Any items you want to buy cost tons more. In order to unlock all the secrets you have to beat the hard difficulty twice (once as a hidden character) and the "Dante must Die" difficulty.

If anyone has any tips on how to beat the harder levels, I'm all ears. In any case, it's a Greatest Hit, so it's 19.99. Definitly a must have.
