I'd like to get into it, finding myself killing myself on snowboards, and being a skiier, but wanting something different.

Anyone know of good sites?
good ways to get started?
is it really different from skiing? or if i'm a decent skiier, should it be pretty easy?

I've heard that both terms apply to the same sport...

ski-boards are the actual things on your feet...and snowblading is what you do....

that's what I found in my hour of research today.

i am and avid skiboarder. i will never go back to skiing or snowboarding. http://www.skiboards.com/ is an awesome site. deals are easy to come by if you do your research. www.getboards.com is ok too. http://www.lineskis.com/ is great for video and info and they have demo days at local resorts. check out the link that says "ride" at the top of the page and then click on "demos."

the only downfall in skiboarding, which isn't much, is using regular ski boots, not the soft snowboarding ones. but like i said, it ain't no big deal. this will be my 7th season on skiboards and I love them. i'll PM you about some stuff i got. enjoy the sites.

also check out the "free" rental from here:

http://skiboards.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/freedemos.html?L+scstore+xyvv9932ffa429a4+1042653162

it's only free if you buy boards from them later. they reimburse your rental costs.

but yeah, how is skiboarding compared to skiing???
is it harder to pick up?
easier?

skiboarding is way easier to pick up than skiing. the only thing is getting used to not having poles in your hand. i was a good skiier before, so that was hard for me. but after one day, it's all good. it is like roller blading downhill. that's the best comparison I can draw. it's SUPER easy to turn since the boards are only 75-100cm. personally I ride 85cm double-tipped boards and that's perfect for me. I can land jumps easier. one thing to look for is a longer back or a centered binding (it comes to the same). if the binding is set too far back on the board, it's hard to land jumps, so having the binding in the center of the board makes it much easier. no matter what, you'l never blow out your knees on skiboards because the torque to mess up your knee comes from the back of the ski catching, but since the backs are so short you don't get that torque. i like that because i have a tendency to jump off things (cliffs, ramps, rails) that are too big and too hard for me, so i crash a lot. but hey, my philosophy is if you're not falling down on the slopes, you're not trying hard enough to do new things.
