Good Deals on Asus K7V??????

does anyone know any good deals for this motherboard. i had to trhash my old crappy procomp mb. i would recommend others to stay away from cheap mb. i now need a good one at a good price.

I just installed my new one tonight (THANKS APEX!) and it is lightning fast. I am really impressed with it. I find myself waiting to wait on stuff and suddenly realize it's already done. Strange feeling. I LOVE it.

I know buy.com carries it, might try using one of the current coupons.

Part of the Expense is the ASUS name and what it implies "quality, stability,exceptional performance"
and part is most athlon boards are higher in price than intel counterparts. there is less of a desirable board than it takes to bring the price lower so a premium price is charged. sucks that it only has 3 pci's http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/frown.gif

The link MaggieOK provided is for the K7V-RM, which is the Micro ATX version of the K7V. It's mainly for OEMs and system integrators, which is why it has less PCI slots. Heck, the RM version usually costs *more* than the full version (why this is so is beyond me), so it's not really for the average consumer.

According to ibuyer.net, Computers4Sure has the K7V for $134.99. I've bought stuff from them before, and I've never had any problems. It's not an incredible deal (most stores carry it for around $150) but it's not a rip-off either.

Personally, I'd use the Abit KA7/KA7-100/KT7. (They are, in order, the normal version, the ATA-100 RAID version, and the ATA-100 RAID/Socket A version.) They are very stable, they overclock nicely (I managed to run my 750 at 840 without using a GFD!), and with newer BIOS revisions they keep up nicely with K7V in performance. Plus, they (unofficially) work with Slot-A T-birds to boot. (But you do lose the integrated sound card and AMR slot, in case you wanted that sort of thing.) Comp-U-Plus always has decent prices on these (currently $135 for the KA7 and $159 for the KA7-100), and I've got no complaints with them.

I certainly don't want to turn this into a K7V vs. KA7 flame war (you'd be surprised how often that happens -- it's just a freaking motherboard, people!), but it's a suggestion if you want to keep your options open.

MaggieOK: I'm sorry if I sounded like an eliteist or something, because I didn't mean to. What probably came off as sarcastic towards you was actually a sarcastic tone towards Asus for marketing an OEM product to consumers. (Tone is everything, and you lose that on the Internet . . .) Heck, I wouldn't have even known about the RM version except that I happened to stumble onto a review of it while I was shopping for Athlon MBs. Anyway, if I offended you, please accept my apologies.

thanks for all these tips. im going to have to pass on the ka7. i found the kv7 with audio on pricewatch for 127. 140 after shipping costs. this is the lowest so far, and im ordering it. thanks for the info anyway. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
