i know there have been some threads in the past about this, but as a lot of companies seem to be fly-by-night operations, i thought it would be relevant to post again.

i'm looking to get some web hosting, and i have the following requirements:

at least 2 subdomains
database (preferably mysql, but access is ok)
asp
cgi-bin
at least 10 email address with pop/web access
executable directory
ftp

and prolly some more that i'm not thinking of. and of course, like everyone else, i want it CHEAP! lol

so, what are some deals some folks have seen? i'm looking pretty hard a registerfly, but i sent them some emails 2 days ago and haven't heard back yet.

thanks

The host for me and sho.gun's websites, hostpacket.net (www.hostpacket.net), looks like they packed up and ran yesterday. We're moving to solidinternet (http://www.solidinternet.com/) (myacen).

500mb space
10gb bandwidth
unlimited subdomains
unlimited POP3 accounts

$60/yr

what happens when you change hosts and you have mail still on there servers? does it just disappear? what about if they "pack up and run?"

Isn't registerfly for domain name registration?

i'm pretty interested in this thread as well. information is everything here.

gil, when you say you've been with alwayshosting for "a while"...how long is "a while"? their basic package is like $12/mo for starters.

but yeah, it's worth it to pay more for a company that's not gonna pack up and leave and screw you in a variety of ways like blue says. losing emails and data would just plain suck to no end, and could cost you more than what you "save" by going with a bargain company that just ends up leaving you holding your pud.

granted, some of us need hosting for fun. some of us will need it for business purposes or other things. so if you have info...now's the time to kick down ;)

by the way, I spent a good amount of time reading the webhostingtalk forums and from my research I can say that:

Myacen has been around for a long time and has lots of happy customers. Their website is http://www.myacen.com

If you're not running an ebusiness site you can go with their sister company, Solid Internet, which is aimed towards the average joe users. http://www.solidinternet.com

There's also dixiesys (http://www.dixiesys.com) who's been around for a long time. They're more expensive though.

Never used registerfly for hosting. Was using hostpacket.net for my passwird.com site and am using manlius.com for my cheapvcds.com site.

I've been with this site for almost ever. They also offer Gaming servers and shotucast servers, so they're pretty popular :).

Their site is:
http://www.xtremeplay.net

P.S. If you're a Got Apexer, mention it and they'll give you a discount. I talked with the owner :).

i registerd a domain list night at registerfly, but did not purchase hosting yet. it was $9 for a year, and included a 3mb no ad site and 512k email. the email would only be good for forwarding.

i think i'll go with them for hosting my other stuff. $7.95/month for everything i was looking for plus some... including unlimited subdomains.

i let yall know how it works out.

Actually, it's because I know the owner. Hes a friend of mine that goes to school with me, and is willing to host you guys for pretty cheap, if you're interested.

So what do you consider "pretty cheap"? Like, say, for the basic web hosting plan? How much less than $7.95/mo?

I'm kinda curious about this too:

SOLD OUT! posted on January 7th by QuantumKicker
Hello! All of our Fremont server slots are sold out! If you would like to be put on the waiting list, please email [email protected] . Thanks!

Thanks :)

No, that's for Game Servers. They have another box for Web Hosting, which has plenty of space :). I think they can give a discount from $7.95/month down to $4.95/month for the basic plan. I don't know about the others, but I think this is a pretty good snag.

BTW: I DID NOT POST THAT THINGY ABOUT THE SOLD OUT GAME SERVERS :p. That was my friend being stupid; Honest.

Hey what's your site? I just started one with them a few days ago (in my sig). There were some mysql probs to start, but the tech support was very responsive. I like 'em so far. :)

Well I tried searching for some reviews of this provider on http://www.hostsearch.com/reviews.asp but I only saw 1 review. Also the prices seem a little high. I heard that manlius.com was really good, but they're not accepting any new accounts right now. They're $89.50/year for
1500mb
180 pop3 accounts
15 gb bandwidth
but only 1 domain.

Any one know any other good providers for about the same price/features?

Thanks

$59.95/yr
---
750mb space
10gb bandwidth
$99.95/yr

I wouldn't reccomend them just yet because I've only been with them for like a week. So far, so good though.

GaryVille.net
Wetlemon.com
a few ohers but those are the most recent

BTW i started with them in july and back then the deal was you get unlimited domains&e-mail also the amount of server space was larger in each of their packages. hosted in i account for rhe same price and that was the selling point for me because i have 6 domain name.

i also like that they use cpanel and have some auto installers for PostnuKE, auction site, stores ect....
