well, the obvious reason is that it's 3:05 am and i'm just getting ready to leave work :(
i publish a twice-monthly newsletter. it's supposed to go out on the 1st and 15th of each month. ideally, we mail it the day before so that it arrives on the client's desk on the publication date (most of our clients are local).
obviously, i'm running 2 days late with this edition, hence the absolute cramming to finish it that has me here at 3am. i could give a lot of reasons why i'm running late. one is that i spent the first two days of the week sick. another is that i'm somewhat of a slacker.
but the biggest problem is that it's damn hard to sit down and write six pages of text (that would be about 9 pages in 12 pt type, single-spaced) when i don't feel like writing and there's nothing particularly interesting to write about.
that's what i really hate about my job -- the tyranny of deadlines. what makes it tough is that it's not like a newspaper, where even if news is slow, you can go out and write a human-interest fluff piece. it's a tightly focused, highly technical newsletter. which means that i have to come up with solid, relevant content, whether the government is doing anything or not.
but i'm just complaining.....a little irritated because my writing went badly, my layout went horrendously, and now it's 3 am and i don't feel like making the hour drive home......
