Actually forget it, I saw the note below on the website:
* Offer available in ALL Time Warner Cable divisions with the exception of Time Warner Cable of Central Florida.
And it applies to me.

Well I just ordered it through Staples. It says $22/mo for 3 mos AND $80 rebate. So it sounds like it'll be $14 cash and 3 mos cable internet for FREE! w00t!
I've been using Earthlink through TWC. I consistently get 2mbps and rarely get any outage.
It definitely beats DSL in my area, in price and performance.:thumb:

:bandit: I see you are also in San DIego. I am in PB with Time Warner and when I enter my info in the Check Availablity section it says "SORRY". Did you check before you signed up? Are you connected yet?

I have an answer on availability- it is all (except that Florida group) Time Warner. My local company says that the regular monthly is $44.95. I believe the rebate is through www.getconnected.com , not Staples. I don't know if I can get the rebate since they say Earthlink is not available to me (although they also say that about RoadRunner which is definately available, so the Earthlink deal should be too). :bandit:
I looked into this about three weeks. I was told that current RR users are not eligable as it is only for new cable modem users. Also do not switch from RR to Earthlink expecting better performance since they run through the same infrustructure. The only differnce between the two is tech support and the pool you draw an IP from.

Not exactly true. I did switch from RR to Earthlink a few months ago. I have been getting about 200kbps better with Earthlink (avg of about 2mbps).
Dear John,
Thank you for contacting us.
Unfortunately, there is no difference in the network provided by RoadRunner or EarthLink-Time Warner Cable Internet. The only difference in the service is that you get an EarthLink email address with us, pull from a different IP pool, and have access to EarthLink Tech Support. However, regarding routing and network issues, these are problems we generally have to refer back to Time Warner since it is their lines and network we are dealing with. As much as I would like to gain you as a customer, I feel that the need to be honest is paramount.
We have further information about Internet access through EarthLink at our customer support site:

(Also accessible from the "Support" link on the top right of your Personal Start Page.)
If you need further assistance you can also contact us via chat at:

Check out www.dslreports.com for all the reports coming out from TWC/Earthlink users. Most users are reporting improvements in speed.
I am not exactly sure how things are shared among TWC, RR and Earthlink, but there must be defferences in DNS and routing.

Lets review,
1 bit = 1 bit
8 bits = 1 byte
1 Kilobit = 1024 bits
1 Kilobit = 128 bytes
1 Kilobyte = 8096 bits
1 Kilobyte = 1024 bytes
1 Megabit = 1,048,576 bits
1 Megabit = 131,072 bytes
2 mbps, thats pronounced 2 MegaBITS per second = 2,097,152 bits per second (bps)
2,097,152 bps = 2,048 Kbps, thats KiloBITS
2,048 Kbps = ... 256 KBps, thats KiloBYTES per second.

For those of you who already did this and have RR, how did you go about it? Did you cancel your RR account. I just got my email wanting to schedule installation and everything is from TimeWarner which means I am getting a second cable modem from them. If anyone has an insight let me know, thanks!

Do you gusy think the $80.00 rebate by staples.com will appear again? I wish i ahd know about it earlier. I've been wanting cable modem for a while but waws waiting for a good deal. The deal right now is not bad, but don;t know if i should wait. What do you think?
Another difference:
I switched from Earthlink Cable to Road Runner in Houston (both services delivered by Time Warner).
While I did get 1 month free from Earthlink (under the promotion that earthlink was running), the newsgroup server I was using was terrible. Retension was bad (the number of days that an article would be available) and download speeds were consistantly terrible (100Kbps vs. nearly the max capped 2Mbps).
This difference doesn't mean much now that I get most of my stuff through P2P software (eMule) vs. news servers, but it did piss me off enough to switch the first time around (2 months ago).
The only explanation I could come up with was that the smtp.earthlink.net was the same one that all of their dialup users use as well wheareas roadrunner uses seperate regional servers (smtp-server.houston.rr.com for example)
Regards,
-g
I was told by both Time-Warner and Earthlink that simply rebooting the modem would be all that was needed. Basicly becasue they are using is the same network, there would be no need for any sort of setup. The reboot is only needed so that I may draw an IP from the pool set aside for Earthlink becasue the MAC address for the modem would then be registered with them.

My point is that someone here knows quite a bit more than the other.

With my current DSL provider going out of business (DirectDSL) I decided that DSL was not for me anymore... I called TimeWarner yesterday and signed up for Roadrunner, and then I saw this thread today!
I just went online and signed up for the Earthlink (no rebate available anymore) and called Time Warner to cancel my order. They were fine with it since Earthlink is TW's customer in a sense...
Cool, that saves me about $68 over the next 3 months!
