Because of the high asian content on this forum, this is a "need to know" question-
Do asians eat ALOT of Ramen Noodles? now I'm not talking about those tasty little rice noodles that I love so dearly, I'm talking about those packages that you buy 200 for a buck..I'm not talking about being in college and having them as a college staple food-I'm talking about your families-People think italians eat tremendous amounts of pasta with every meal (we definately dont)..are Ramen something that asian people introduced to the public as a "fast food joke" for people thinking they are eating asian food? WEll?

I can answer that. Ramen in Asia is sort of like... Ramen in the States. Kids like em, poor students live off them. Most parents will frown upon ramen showing up on the dinner table since they're not really healthy, but even regular adults will enjoy them every once in a while. The best comparison I can make is fast food burgers in the States...
The only difference: in Asia, instant noodles are generally much higher quality. You'll rarely find the super cheap "oodles of noodles" variety. They're mostly of decent quality.

i can't stand Ramen(the brand, not the overall idea), but i do like the "real stuff" that my mum buys at the asian food markets. looks almost the same, except it's usually in bright orange packaging with asian characters all over, and has different spices inside. to me, Ramen tastes like chewy tasteless crap. :-p then again, i'm really outta touch with my asian culture, so i might just be weird... :P

Yeah, most I'm pretty sure most families eat rice a whole lot more than ramen noodles.
In Japan however, they have little ramen bars everywhere where people can order bowl of ramen noodles and eat standing up, quick meals for the working folk. So to answer there's definitely a fast food element to ramen noodles but as a family meal type thing, I no think so.

hmm as for families, its an occasional snack.. or if you don't wanna bother cookin too much, just make some ramen. but not just any ramen.. the 10 for $1 crap taste nasty. if you get ramen, you gotta go for some some that start at around 30 cents. I'd name specific brands if I could, but there are too many.
And also, the ever-so-popular Nissan brand that are at supermarket-chain stores.. did you know that if you buy it from an asian market, the Nissan brand, its not the same thing? the texture of the noodles are better, tastes a bit better.. but thats all a matter of preference :P

Yep, ramen as a snack = delish. Ramen as a meal? Not the instant kind. But if you go to a ramen house, say like Hakata Ramen (shinsengumi) then yeah there's a meal. But for the instant stuff, that's just the snack food.

wish i was asian :(
we americans bring stuff like hamburgers, fries, ketchup, and mountain dew to the global table. no wonder we're all getting so fat. this thread is making me hungry. i think i'm going to dig into the pantry and see if there's any ramen noodles to chow. my wife thinks they're disgusting....

Yeah, when that stuff gets cold it becomes a big glutinous mass...and no power short of god's cousin can digest that junk...although it does give you an unfortunate insight into what the stuff looks like in your stomache.
