In support of this deal...
I got a pc from freepc.com last year and they went out of business TWO months later. They then sent me an email saying the computer is mine to do whatever I want with so I reformatted it and gave it to my dad. It was a celeron 433, 64mb, 6gb, 15" monitor. Retailed for $800 at the time.

It is our goal to eventually be able to give a FreeDesktop computer to each and every applicant. At this stage, however, we cannot guarantee that any applicants will receive a FreeDesktop PC.
umm ya think maybe we ought to wait till they actually ship a couple? http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

Screw it - I applied. I missed out the last time I was offered one of these free machines. The only stipulation is you have to surf for 12 hours a month on it - just dial up and night and go to sleep.

I WOULD do it but I'm sure they MAKE you dial up so I would have to tie up my phone line even though I have a cable modem http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/frown.gif
I asked them about it, will post their response.
Yeah. I just love looking at ads while playing NHL 2000 or Quake. It just enhances the gameplay. I think that this is one deal that you do not want to take advantage of.

Here is what thier FAQ say
What if I fail to use the FreeDesktop for 12 hours one month?
If your usage is low during one month, we’ll assume it's due to a vacation or travel, etc. If you consistently fail to meet the required 12 hours of usage month after month, we may require you to return the FreeDesktop so that we may allow someone else to make use of it. Any use of the computer will count towards the 12 hour requirement, whether online or not.
so i guess we don't have to worry about that http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/tongue.gif

I think I will give it a try. I need more desktop to put all the banners anyway. If I get chosen, I think I can get rid of all the alladvantage **** on my laptop.

Why couldn't you just format one of these and not deal with the ads?

I am not sure but I think they will make you go online at least once a month for new ads and to system scan you. I just know that I passed on freepc.com b4 because they want CC # and I afraid they will find something and charge me. But i going to apply to this one and seee what happens.

Well, it's been 24 hrs and no response. Either they do require dial up or don't know http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif
Who are we kidding anyway. This is the only way they know how to track your usage anyway. For cable modem/dsl users this is a pass-me-up, me thinks.
