Blizzard has release some details on the expansion to WarCraft III. I think it's called the Frozen Throne. Check it out at www.blizzard.com

Nice...
Hopefully this expansion will help get rid of the current WarCast stagnation. :hmm:

If you've been playing ladder games at all lately, you can almost rest assured that your opponent is going to harrass with their hero while they tech straight to casters. Orc = Witch Doctors/Shaman. Human = Priests/Sorcs. Night Elf = Dryads. Undead = Dead. :hmm:

You have a hero too, that's EASILY counterable. Put up a tower/protector/zig and build army and hit them while they tech.

That's all fine and good, but even if you can fight off their hero, that doesn't mean that you can take their base. A good player doing this only needs few minutes to tech up, and if you waste your time building base defenses, they will probably crush you in the end.
It all really depends on who you play. If they are a good player, you need to be just as good. If they are a mediocre player, you can probably win most of the time.

One tower is good enough to fend of a single hero. Leave it up and go kill his peons. Let's see if he can tech like that

What would be the problem with going for a caster? That is whta they're trying to encourage. Obviously a magic unit would be more powerful than a regular unit, and more desirable. Why don't you just play the same way (as you're supposed to...)? I fail to see the problem...

The only real problematic casters are the human casters. If you get 12 sorcs and 12 priests, you're damn near unstoppable. All the priests will cast inner fire on everyone boosting their armor by 5. Then they heal each unit as they get hurt. Sorcs will turn the other persons army into sheep which can't attack. Once you have that, you focus-fire all 24 units at the sheep one at a time and the games over.

The problem is that the game has gotten stagnant. Every game the same thing: mass casters. There is almost no point in building other units anymore. If they are magic units, their primary purpose should be in casting spells, not attacking. Yet their attack does a lot of damage, pierces (150% damage to heavy armor units), sometimes slows, and they can cast other spells to hinder units in a myriad of ways. And I highly doubt that this is the way we are "supposed" to play. After all, Blizzard already released a patch to deal with overpowered Shaman.
Oh, and Memo, again, your tatics only work if you are at least as good as your opponent.

Slow down there turbo!
I havn't touched warcraft 3 for such a long time, seems like ages, but any who to the point! You can defend anything and can counter anything in this game, thats why its so great.
"Orc = Witch Doctors/Shaman. Human = Priests/Sorcs. Night Elf = Dryads. Undead = Dead"
As I am usualy humans I will tell you what I would do...asumin that you where to get these (if your a good player, you should always know what your enemy is getting by sending out a scout at the near start of the game).
vs. orc = Gryphon tech will easily beat doc/sham cause low dmg output
vs. human = Human vs. Human is always a great game, and you cant just make up a strategy, it all depends on what lvl you are playing and what your main goal is. Sometimes, a blizzard rush may win, a tower rush, fottie rush, teching is sort of out of the question unless you know what you are doing, and if I did tech, it would be for knights and priest. It also depends on what hero you use as moutain king is always good for footie wars at the start, pali is also viable because the aura will give you a bonus vs an equel amount of foot soldiers at the start as any hum. player would know. Heal also is good. The arch mage is the main pick for rushing, like a tower rush, as your towers will nock down enough soldiers to get you to lvl 2 for your aura. Thats just the start game stuff, really human vs human is a hard match.
vs. NE = As human its an automatic win! Really it is! I can beat any Night elf player (i need practice as I havnt played in a while) easily. Its called a tower rush, and on plunders isle and lost temple, its fairly easy to pull it off. Once you get 1 tower up, they are dead, period.
vs. Undead = hard battle as they have duel aura, I forgot what I used to do to beat these fellers...(thinking) I know sorc and priest did well because slow down plus heal, also have poly if it is a non merchant based map which will cancel out WoN for them. I think what I used to do was bate and lure. Slow em down with sorc, then blizzard, repeat. OH YEAH! I remember, I would have priest sorc in back, with arch mage, and have Mk was it warstomp? the stun one, stun them, then blizzard and cast slow. If you have pali, have him heal and fight, divine shield when hurt and back off once its almost out to just heal....thats how I won
I mean, there are so many strategies to counter against anything, even the ones I just explained now have counters which I wont tell you about cause u might use them :D Remember that if they are teching up to casters, they HAVE TO research for decent spells, the lv 1 isnt very good, so you do have time to, 1. expand, 2. tower in, 3. tech yourself, 4. creep
I think I might set up another warcraft tourney since all of you are so into it again...
ALSO! who ever was going to recieve the t-shirts form the last tourny, please e-mail me. Guess gabe misplaced the paper I gave him with the adress's...so we will get them out to you again..just e-mail me.
Have fun playing wc3 guys, im sitin here writin a 10 page paper due midnite :hmm:

Nice post, Blitz.
Ideally, that is what I wish every player would play like: changing strategies. But, unfortunately, it seems like all that anyone does anymore is tech straight to casters. :(
Oh, and YGM! ;-P
And if you ever want a HUvNE match up, just let me know! ;P
Going random is a good way to keep the game fun. I always go random now. You learn all the races and you have to change strategies depending on maps. Also, it gives you the element of surprise. The other player doesn't know what you are and thus takes a gamble if he immediately starts teching/building a certain strategy.

Im having way to much fun now with C&C generals to go back to wc3 anytime soon
I made a game, 2v2, USA vs China.. I was usa...
15 minutes to get as many sources as u can and build tanks...then we all would meet in the middle of the city and have tank wars.... who ever had the last tank standing wins.
IT WAS SOOOO MUCH FUN! I have long rage artilery rocket launcher guys, hunvee's and tanks..while china (best for tanks) had all these sorts of diff tanks, but not really any good range/artillery type. Fight lasted about 10 mins in itself. I would send a few in, as decoy to get fog of war off so I could see whats in range, get rockets to barage from back, then flank on both sides with the remaining tanks I had.. was soo much fun..
just cant wait till this game is released, going to rock the sockz off wc3 I think. Its not really 'as much' strategy as wc3 from what I have seen (only played noob to decent players) but the fun factor is really high. Not as frustrating as wc3 could be when 1 soldier sometimes wins the game.
peace, im out for the nite

I kinda of agree with you, cus that's all people do now for team games. The strange thing is, good high level solo players rarely use these strats and stick with tier 1 units for most of the game. You This guy Tillerman (www.theinclan.com) owns with tier 1 units. You can beat people with better units if you have better microing skills. Also, I think undead is the strongest race right now. You just have to know what counters to use. They are very adaptable.
Can't wait for the expansion :D

Yeah, Tillerman is pretty good, but he quite often goes above Tier 1 units. I've just never seen him go mass casters... thank god.
