outlook questions

ok, so outlook has been driving me batty today.

i'm trying to make it check for messages constantly, but i can't figure out where to change it. it's just stuff over an internal network, but my boss keeps getting annoyed because i don't get his messages.

i do, but unless i specifically go to "check for new mail", they don't pop up :(

also, i want to make my inbox show up with the message list on the top half of the screen and a preview of the message in the bottom half. but i can't find where to change that either.

all in all, i hate outlook. but that's another story....

Outlook, or Outlook express??

for outlook express:

-On the Tools menu, click Options.
-On the General tab, select the Check for new messages every X minutes box.
-Specify in the text field how often you want Outlook Express to check for new messages.

For Outlook 2000:

-From the "Tools" menu select "Options"
-Click the "Mail Delivery" tab on the top of the window.
-Make sure you check the "send messages immediately when connected" and the "Check for new message every 'x' minutes"

For Outlook XP:

-From Tools, Select Send/Receive Settings.
-Select Send/Receive Groups
-Within the Send/Receive Groups window, have Outlook XP automatically check your mail, select Schedule an automatic send/receive every X minutes, where X is a number greater than 5. If you select a number below 5 it will place an unnecessary strain on the server.

The option that must be set, however, is including your account in send/receive settings. To do so, double click on the All Accounts selection in the main window.

i got it working so now i finally get my mail when it's sent....which is a good thing :)

You don't have to do it when it's sent.. you can set it to automatically check like the prior email states.

unless that's what you did and I'm just not reading it right because i'm hungover and on 2 1/2 hours of sleep.. heehh

you get the preview working correctly?

if not....view....preview pane...

Preview can also be a bad thing.. some virii try to run themselves if you have preview pane enabled.. or at least they did.. I don't use outlook anymore, so I don't know if they made a security update to stop this.. but that is all in the discretion of the user.

funny thing is.....my version of outlook doesn't have that option :angry:

the only thing i can do is "auto preview", which shows the first few lines of the message below the listing of the message.

maybe it's because i'm in outlook97 and that feature wasn't available back then :shrug:

as for the virus threat, it's not a big problem, as it's just internal office email over our lan.

Outlook 97 did not come with the preview pane.
