Is there some secret guide to networking these two OS's together??

I just got a laptop that had XP home installed and my Desktop has XP Pro on it..

All I want to do is transfer files but for some reason it isn't recognizing anything?

I have them in the same work group.. I used the "networking wizard".. they are in the same IP string (192.168.1.X).. they are connected through a Linksys router.. I have XP's firewall turned off on both sides.. directories have been shared.. But I still can't see computer A from computer b and vise versa..

I've done networking for awhile now and this is just boggling.. has MS done something to prevent this??

Any help would GREATLY be appreciated.. thx

MAke sure you have IPX protocol installed on both, and yeah make sure you have file sharing set correctly like DarkFury said.

also, is the laptop set up for a domain or something? You need to make sure both are set to connect to the same workgroup - Windows gets putzy if they are on different workgroups/domains.

I did what I should had done already and just upgraded my laptop to XP Pro.. even then it wouldn't share..

THEN.. I did the home network setup wizard.. still no work... put in the XP cd and went to additional tasks, did setup wizard on there.. made sure all networking components were installed.. and FINALLY i got it working.. but only when I had my network cable plugged in.. so then after searching around on why my wireless wouldn't work for the file sharing.. i remembered ICF and disabled it and got it working.. finally after a week of putzing around with it.

and I can share the C: just fine.. as long as I change the permissions around n stuff..

Thanks for all the help anyways!
