Just received an email from Dell telling me that my order for two of these machines is not being honored.

--- from Dell ---
January 27, 2003

Dear Sir/Maam:

We have received and reviewed your order. Unfortunately, the pricing on the system(s) you ordered was an error and the order cannot be fulfilled. While, as our web pages indicate, Dell cannot be responsible for errors in web content, we would like to offer you an exclusive discount on top of Dell's everyday low pricing through the Small Business website.

We apologize for any inconvience this error has caused for your business.

Thank you for choosing Dell

Bummer.

That has got to count as false advertising in some way. If you are completing the ENTIRE order through the website, you can't say that it's just an error in the ad.

In a B&M store, they can put the "not responsible for typos" line in ads as long as they tell you the correct price once you get there.

In this case, it's like walking into the store, having the sales guy ring up the order and tell you it'll be delivered in a couple of days, and then calling you up and saying sorry the sales people were wrong and we don't have to honor it.

This is one of the few types of legislation I'd like to see pass, requiring online stores to honor their prices. This would force them to doublecheck their pricing, or pay up whether they like it or not.

--> Just my $.02

I order from Dell regularly...they always try to screw you. They are no better than anyone else. Someone should get something together and we can bitch as a group and make sure dell hears it!

Some of the best deals also come from dell. Don't get me wrong, they sent my dads computer with the plastic still on the heatsink gunk and the thing kept overheating.

Over a dozen different things ordered from them last year for myself, family or friends. All for great prices at the time.
17 LCD - good deal at the time forget exact price.
8+ Systems the 4500 - 82xx. MIRs etc came out to less than I could build it for.
2 Laptops- good deals with rebates
19 Samsung Flat for $152 shipped (last yr. or the yr. before)
PDA
etc.

Hopefully they don't start pulling this bs on every good deal.

ive seen at least a few dozen good deals from dell in the last few months alone. in the last 2 years ive ordered from dell about 10 times and only once has my order not been completed due to the item selling out. every other time ive had great deals and no problems with the products or customer service. mistakes happen, if this was a mistake than dell does not have to honor that price if they choose not to. ive seen similar deals before with 2 computers at around the same price that have been honored. so the deal didnt go though this time, there will be others

Looks like that is a good thing for all of us. I am calling and asking why the honored it for some and not others.

If it's a pricing mistake in their website they may not get it till after you place the order.

As for putting out incessant phone calls, I believe the copupon on that post applied 2x to the order, where it shouldve applied only 1x. But this is from memory.... aand even the deal said that the coupon was double posting.

So.... some of ya got lucky, some didn't, but really- could you keep the immature whining down just a tad?

Put the same scenario in a B&M. We have all had cases where the person at the register screws up and rings up the price too low, or the box has the wrong price on it... 9 out of 10 times they don't even notice, but even the few times they do notice they almost always give it to you at the lower price. Why? Are they being nice? sometimes... but don't forget - IT'S THE LAW! You can't have something marked one price and advertise that price then change it at the last minute.
