Usually it goes in stages. 20%, 50%, etc.
I hear professional liquidators bring in junk from various places and most of the good stuff ends up with employees. Have fun and post what you find.

I called the Escondido K-Mart and they said they have 10-30% off right now and they didn't know when the next increment would be.

Called Westminster K Mart too, same thing... we'll hav to keep each other posted on this board.
The company that I work for is one of the partners on closing these 330 stores. We were partners on the stores that were liquidated two years ago as well.
If I receive any information regarding the discount schedule, i'll be sure to post it for all of you.

anything for a new home. maybe some patio furnature, martha stewart dishes, a new grill....
but what I really want is new pots and pans. I bought some really cheap-o kind for my college years, and they are finally starting to go bad. I have one pan of martha's, and it is really nice.

Same here. Looking for things for the house. Paint, pots, pans, furniture.
And then there are the items like DVDs, TVs, Cd players, CD (if they drop under 10 bucks, etc.
Even some things like "wife beater" underwear shirts and underwear it just depends. Even that Hulk Hogan action figure would be nice to have if its cheap enough :)
The PS2 and other gaming systems might have gone in Westminster at 10% off... didn't check.

K Mart in Westminster will be shut down by March 31st. So that might give us an idea of the percentage time table. I heard something about 50% off. but it was crowded and noisy. It was an employee but didn't hear it all and the one I did ask knew nothing.

Update,
The K Mart in Westminster increased some of their discount. The blanket 10% is still there, but toys, cameras, and some select other items are 20% off. Jewelery is 70% off and clothes are 60%... jus tpassing it along... but again the bulk of the stuff is still 10%

the PS2's at San Jose were only 10% off, which I doubt they'll lower the price any more. $180 for a new one.. not bad, not not something to jump at either. they had only 4 left when i went on wednesday..
what sucks is since its closeouts now, they don't have sales, so the 10-30% off is off of regular prices.. which in some cases, its not even cheap..

Our local K-mart closed last May and thats when I got my 20hr Series1 TiVo. $99.00. They had 7 of them. We live in a small community and afaik I'm the only one who has a TiVo for probably 100 miles. :)
I also got my years supply of Scotts grass seed. 5lb bags for $2.00 I believe it was. It was CHEAP I remember that.

*grumble* I paid 400$ for mine! (60hr series) but nice find on the TiVo. :)
our Kmart had hardly anything left in electronics, they guy working told us "not to tell anyone" that they shipped most of it out to the Super Kmart across town, they sent seasonal items back.
and our Kmart in Urbana is still at 10-30% off, but dog and cat food is 20%. not a bad deal.

Your 60hr is probably a Series 2. Mine was Series 1 but at the time Series 2 hadn't come out. Either way it was a steal and the best 100 bucks I've spent in many years. Only thing is I'd pay the $350 for a new Series 2 now that I own one.

TiVo is perhaps the greatest invention ever. ;)
Off the topic! oops!
Question! for those who told about the last few dayswhen the prices are basically fit everying into a cart for $5 ....
what kid of stuff was left?! our Kmart is already looking bare!

Nothing but crap. I couldn't imagine what it's like for people in big cities. Our community has about 12,000 people between the two cities and ours was cleared out.
They had ok stuff up until about the last 3 weeks and they started shipping anything that didn't sell to other stores. I wish I would have gotten the Audiovox portable DVD player (can't remember model) but it was $148.00 with 7" screen

:stupid: theres still plenty in San Jose.. things are still rather expensive.. For those who got the Tivo from Kmart, does that require the subscription or that one time fee?

It's either or.
Right now monthy sub is $12.95/month or a lifetime sub for the unit for $249 till Feb 28th. Starting March 1st lifetime subs will be $299.00. Monthly will stay the same.
May seem steep but worth every penny.

i haven't made my way to any of the local stores that are closing (seeing as i'm in detroit, we're taking quite a hit, because the market was over-saturated).
but based on what happened last spring, if there's anything you really want, get in on it during the 10% off phase. people are weird and are governed by irrational psychology. so they will rush to the store and buy anything just because it's 10% off (even though it's still more expensive than walmart :hihi: ), just because it's "on sale".
by the time the stores went to 30% off, there was basically nothing but crap. at the very end (during the 60%-80% phase, i picked up a few random bargains, but it was basically slim pickings after the first week or so)

So true. You'd think that the first things to go would be DVDs certain toys and cds....nope. Make up, facial creams, things chicks use, and Propane.... strange.
Yeah people where buying up a storm on some of the stuff.... and it wasn't really that cheap...in Cali 10% covers sales tax and a bit more....
update: since the company i work for isn't the lead company on the liquidation (we are one of the 4 partners), i can't get any info on the discount schedules. Sorry!

Call K-mart and tell them that the low-end crap they sell should be at least 50 % off at all times :)
