OK, I think I'm convinced on the Energy Take 5 speakers - any deals out there? I'm having trouble even finding online retailers for this.

Also, any recommendations on a good receiver around $350-500? Also, should I get the Energy 10" subwoofer or shop somewhere else. This costs around $380 and I don't want to spend more than that on a subwoofer.

I have pretty decided what I am going to buy this fall. A Sony DB830, which is only $320 delivered. If you get the money, you can get DB930 for $400. All from Onecall. And you can also wait for cheap stuff at ubid, but just you have to add $30-40 to the original price for S/H.

Hey, I recently put together a system. I am using JVC reciever, DVD, and VHS, and JBL Studio Series speakers. I would definitely check out these speakers. VERY EXCELLENT quality, performance, and at the right places price - check www.wholesaleproducts.com (http://www.wholesaleproducts.com) I got the S310. The coolest speakers right now that JBL has are the S412 - internal powered sub and amp. VERY SWEET SOUND... I just couldnt afford them on a college budget. JBL Has some nice subs too, though they are only selling the 10" at wholesale products, the 15" will rock your world. I went with JVC components for a few reasons, 1)My dad had JVC system growing up that he had for close to 20 years and it worked perfectly, 2)More bang for your buck - you will find better internal circuitry, more power (watts/chan), more inputs, and overall more bang for your buck over Sony products. They put a lot of research in, and dont advertise like Sony, saving you the enduser the money. I bought the JVC RX-8000VBK from www.vanns.com (http://www.vanns.com) . I am only comparing JVC and Sony because we are talking about mid-range systems. Low end, you will get the DD and if you are lucky DTS in an low powered, "HISSING" system. I mention hissing b/c when I was shopping around, you could tell the different steps in quality of systems by the background noise, quite amazing to be able to stand there and rate systems by that quality. Anyhow, I hope you check into the JBL Studio Series speakers before you buy, they are nice speakers. Laterz

I bought the Sony STR-845DE a month or so ago, and I am still amazed by the things this receiver can do. 100 watts per channel output, digital/optical ins and outs. Hey Thanks! Wow, I am really impressed with the features, etc on that model for the price. The reviews on CNET seem very positive as well!

OK Can anyone suggest somewhere on the web where I can get the Energy speakers? Also, how about subwoofer recommendations?

IrishSS I am not bring offensive, but most of the people at audioreview suggest staying away from the DE line. My ex-roommate has a DE935, and I think it is great. But I am no audiophile, so I think I will listen to the voice out there.
Energy makes some good stuff, but again I am no audiophile so I am not spending 400 on a sub. If I am buying a sub, I will get the JBL sub that Apex mentioned before.

you should really check out the new onkyo receivers. they are excellent receivers and they are now offering a dolby 6.1 surround system, which means there is an added channel behind you. although i dont know if that feature will fall in your price range. onkyo offers the most impressive receivers i've seen outside of denon.

I got my Energy Take 5's from http://www.audioshop.on.ca/

I just went to their site and they don't list the price's, however, if you call they will tell you. I got the Take 5's and the 10" sub for a little over $500 through them. Keep in mind that they are a Canadian retailer, so you will need to convert the prices. I was recommended to this store through the people at the Hometheater forum.

AHHHHHHH.... I took the advice that you guys gave me.
1. I bought the Videodirect Sony DD reciever.
2. I'm still deciding about the 8 inch or the 10 inch woofer?!!!!!!!!!!! I know Apex put a deal for the 8 inch and speakers for 500, but I want that 10 inch!!

If you guys are looking for home theatre in conjunction with your DVD player or something, check out the Toshiba SD6109C (or d).. not sure.. i own it.. it's a dvdplayer/tuner mix.. i believe it's 250 watts dolby digital,DTS all the xtras.. from what I understand, they don't produce them anymore and not too many people know of them. they retail at like 799 or so but I got mine of off liquidprice.com for 340
