Could someone explain the brewing concept here? I read the specs over and over and I can't quite figure it out. Also, what are coarse grounds?
For these press-filter brewers you use a coarser grind of coffee because it sits for about 4 minutes, steeping in the hot water. Another reason for the courser grind is that the press has a screen that the water passes through,,,if the grind is too fine the coffee is very murky. If you like a robust brew, then this is definately the way to go. Great price. What you do is put the grounds in the press and then pour the hot, not boiling, water over them. You then put the press attatchement on top and wait 4 minutes. Then you press the plunger and it compacts the grounds to the bottom, allowing you to pour the coffee into the cups. Hell,, at that price you'd be advised to try it. Enjoy.

Thanks, Ace. It seems like a pain just to have strong coffee, which I really don't care for.

is there a noticable different on the taste for those presses?
I'm still using that grind n brew from the gevalia deal a year ago.
but it's such a pain to clean.
was looking into coffee presses, and those vacuum brewers, or
maybe go back to my old viet french plunger

the coffee presses don't necessarily have to make a stronger brew. that all depends on how long you steep the coffee. but yes, there is a noticable difference.
the nice thing about the press is that it does not affect the oil in the coffee. make some pressed coffe, and you will see that the top is very oily when you pour it into a cup. most folks use paper filters in a drip machine, and the paper traps all the oil.
that's what gives the coffe a more robust flavor.
as for cleaning, i think they are a pain in the ass to clean. you have to take it all apart. granted, you don't have to really clean it, you just rinse. but still a pain compared to drip machines that you just rinse the pot on.
also, starbucks presses are made by bodium, and are availabe at target without the starbucks logo. not as cheap as this sale though!

Don't forget the 4-pack of Espresso Demitasse cup and saucer kits or the pair of SS double walled mugs, each for $11.99. I'd say the SS mugs are a better deal than the previously mentioned plastic variety.

My order still says "In Process".
How long does it take for them to process an order? I think they need some caffeine to help them pick up the pace a little.. :P
