Sorry for the mis-leading title, I'm not sure if changing your password frequently will resovle the problem.

I received an email from ebay this afternoon confirming a change of password, which I was unaware of. I do not share accounts with anybody; apparently someone got a hold of my password, changed all my info and is now selling extremely expensive business equipment, up in the 10gran range.

Does anybody have any advice for what actions I should take? I have not attempted to contact the culprit yet, I will wait upon ebay's reply to my email.

In the confirmation email from ebay, they sent me an IP address and a ISP host address. Will this information be helpful at all?

ANY ADVICE is appreciated, I do not want to be stuck with a fat bill from ebay. TIA

Was your eBay password the same as your user ID? Or was it something easy to crack? If so, shame on you!

Do you have a credit card on your eBay account to pay the listing fees? If so, call your bank and cancel the card immediately. Notify eBay of the hack. Send it in an email, and in a letter, sent certified, return receipt requested. Save copies of all letters.

Next time, use a better password!

not terribly unlike what happened to me a few months ago...

got an email saying my credit card had been used to either register another account, bid on something over $10k, or open another account...

I about sh*t a brick. Called Visa, told them to cancel the card.

Changed my password on ebay and a couple other things that use the same password.

Emailed ebay, and two days later they FINALLY replied and said they had closed the other account it was registered to.

no problems since.

personally, i would cancel the card, change any other similar passwords, and close the ebay account immediately.
