http://www.compgeeks.com has an AVATAR Shark 250 MB Drive and Media for $39.99 this weekend. It is a lot cheaper than Zip Drives. Anybody familiar with this drive? Seems like a steal to me

I've used one for a couple of years now. It works great. It's just that the company has been out of business for three years now.(no support) $39.99 is an OK price. Search around and check ebay, you might do better. You can get the disks at ebay at a great price. Fry’s still wants $40 just for one disk. There are some drivers that aren’t packaged with the Shark. Let me know if you get one and I will look for the links.

I got a couple off Ebay, and the drivers mess up my (Win 98) system. Are there other drivers available? I searched online
but didn't find anything...

The links to drivers I had are now dead. I emailed you version 1.31 for windows 95/98.

I would stay away from those drives where the company is out of business... sharkdrive, syquest, etc.
Then you are at the mercy of a limited supply of media... and usually higher and higher prices as the years go on.
CDR has to be the best overall option. And with drives as little as $100 for a 4x4x24 CD-RW and $0.50 each (or less) for media, it's the smartest option. And it will be around for EVER.
Dave.

I've heard too many sob stories about these drives. The media is crap, the disks get jacked up all the time. And now that the company is chapter 13'd. . . Oh well if you like to put your files on volaitle medai, go for it.

I have one of these drives myself. ( Actually 2 since they shipped 2 by mistake :-) ).
I got mine on ubid for 27 incl shipping.
The company has gone bust so there is there is no support and no drivers for win2000.
However works great under linux .
I have seen the diskettes available on tigerdirect for $13 a pop.

Da_Scud,
Great price. I know you can do better on ebay also, but some like to use retailers.
Won't the NT drivers work in Win2000 OS?

These things suck. My ex roomie had one that he got as a Christmas present.. kept on crashing his computer and he ended up buying a zip drive eventually.

Overstock.com has the internal ide oem zip 100 drive for $55 + free shipping. They also have $20 off for new customers. I'd think $35 for a zip drive is a great deal.
Although i own a couple of the shark drives and have no problem until now i'd still go for the zip drive just bcoz of the fact that the diskettes are hard to find .
Btw buy.com has a special on zip disks too. $39.99 for 5 pack with $10 rebate.
