LOS ANGELES, Calif. (February 10, 2003) - Square Electronic Arts L.L.C. (Square Electronic Arts), the exclusive publisher of all SQUARESOFT products in North America announced today that FINAL FANTASY ORIGINS for the PlayStation game console will begin shipping to North American retailers on April 8, 2003. FINAL FANTASY ORIGINS combines Square's groundbreaking FINAL FANTASY and FINAL FANTASY II role-playing game titles into one disc and will carry a suggested retail price of U.S. $30. Remakes of the two titles feature new cinematic movies, opening theme songs, event scenes including updates of the original event sequences, enhanced graphics, improved sound quality as well as new game play modes making the game accessible to beginners and veterans alike. Together, these two titles laid the foundation for the series and spawned many hit sequels that have now sold over 42 million units worldwide.

"FINAL FANTASY and FINAL FANTASY II established Square as a pioneering force in the role-playing game genre," said Jun Iwasaki, president of Square Electronic Arts. "We are pleased to bring gamers an exciting update of these landmark titles in FINAL FANTASY ORIGINS. We believe this anthology will bring back great memories for fans of the original titles as well as appeal to today's fans. This package which contains two titles in one disc will also be priced at $30 - players will not want to miss out on this great value."

FINAL FANTASY was originally released in North America in 1990 for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Praised by gamers and critics alike, FINAL FANTASY is considered one of the first RPGs to immerse players into an emotion-packed gaming experience. The game follows the story of four young warriors, each possessing a special crystal, who are summoned to bring harmony back to a world threatened by an evil entity intent on conquering it. Following their unknown destinies, the warriors battle heinous monsters and travel to places they never imagined possible in their quest to restore order to their world.

FINAL FANTASY II, being offered for the first time in North America, was released in Japan in 1988 and set the benchmark for the role-playing genre. Utilizing complex story development and deeper characterizations, FINAL FANTASY II tells the story of a malevolent emperor that has called upon demonic monsters to take over the world. In the chaos that follows, thousands succumb to their evil attacks until four young, orphaned survivors take it upon themselves to stop the merciless rule and avenge the deaths of their parents.

FINAL FANTASY ORIGINS also includes a new bestiary with detailed descriptions of all monsters, access to art galleries with illustrations from renowned artist Yo****aka Amano and a "memo file" function for quick, convenient saves. FINAL FANTASY ORIGINS for the PlayStation game console is a single player game with an ESRB rating of "T" (Teen). The game carries a suggested retail price of U.S. $30."

One the one hand I think this is cool for I really liked those games as easy as they were...

On the other hand - $30 bucks?! I don't care what they added to it that's no $30 value. $19.99 maybe but these are old games made in the late 80's you just can't put a big price tag o0n them anymore.

Yeah, Final Fantasy was awesome on the emulators...but definitely not worth 30 bucks when combined with FF2. Maybe if they put all of the FF titles together on a few DVDs and put them on the X-Box...then I might pay 30 bucks for the entire package. That's about the only way, considering how the X-Box already has emulators that allow it to play NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, and GBA games... That leaves me the ability to play whichever ones I want on my TV already...

I should clarify. X-Box users with modchips have these abilities, but I do not yet have a modchip. Therefore I do not already have these options open to me. I'm in the market for n X-ecutor 2 Pro with Pogopin at the moment, but I'm trying to figure out what exactly all of these different mods actually do.
