Fatal shooting caught on tape
Witnesses' apathy also caught on tape

District of Columbia police are looking for the customer shown here after he did nothing to help a man who was fatally shot.
Washington, D.C. police say a videotape shows a man being shot to death at a gas station and left to die.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- District of Columbia police have released a videotape showing witnesses doing nothing to help a man after he was fatally shot at a gas station.

"That's just one of the worst things I've ever seen," said Police Chief Charles H. Ramsey. "There just aren't words to describe something like that."

Police said the station surveillance video showing the January 31 slaying of Allen E. Price is disturbing because it not only shows the crime, but the apathy of those who were there, including one man who continued pumping kerosene after looking briefly at Price's body.

Not only did the man finish pumping his kerosene, but paid for it and drove off, giving the camera its clearest look at Price lying on the ground. That customer has not been found.

The camera also recorded several cars pulling away from the station after the shooting, with at least one car pulling up to the kerosene pump beside Price after he was shot.

Police also interviewed dozens of people on a passing city bus but no one saw anything.

Police have no motive or suspects.

Its chilling that people are so cold hearted today.

With all the scumbag lawyers suing for everything under the sun, people don't want to get involved.

Really? Opened right up for me...

FYI, this doesn't have anything to do with the the DC sniper shootings--it's footage of a murder at a gas station on Jan 31st. A guy runs up, shoots one of the people pumping gas, and runs away. The guy in question finishes pumping his gas, pays, and drives away. Really sad. Either the guy was completely oblivious (doubtful...) or just completely cold-hearted...I mean, he didn't even ask the attendant to call the cops...I hope they find this guy and make him explain himself.

That is truly sad but being that this is DC that we are talking about, it's quite possible that the people living there are seeing this stuff all the time. It doesn't excuse the action of the guy who just watched, but might help to explain it a little bit. I would condemn it if the guy actually had an opportunity to help the dude before he was blasted.

What't the big deal. I mean yeah, it would've been nice if they guy had helped out. But I don't know if I'm going to condemn the guy for not helping out. I mean, how many bums die one the street on a daily basis that we just walk by and not help? How is this any different? Now... the shooter to begin with, I can understand condemning him. Kinda wrong that the article focused more on the guy that didn't help than on the guy who shot the gun to begin with.

Nope, but I viewed it with WMV, not RealSuckyPlayer... It gave me several options for viewing it.

Strange...

I don't even have RealPlayer installed, maybe that's what it is...

If I was around a shooting, I would run. I don't want to be a part of any shooting. There is no reason for me to risk my life for someone I don't know. If I had seen the shooter, I would surely report to the police, but I would not stick around. Sure it would suck if I was the one who was shot, but I can understand the fact that others may either a) want me dead or b) don't want to die them selves, there is a shooter loose for crying out loud. What about the Gas station workers, did they hear gun fire? Also they say several others drove up, I don't know about you, but I don't bother looking at the other people pumping gas unless it is a hot chick, I probably wouldn't even notice cash on the ground if it wasn't in direct eye sight

The police should be on a search for the shooter, not the damn witness. I feel like the police are asking the public to pick up some of the polices slack which I feel is wrong because I see some legal things as wrong.

I was asked to pay to view the video as well. It said something about Road Runner subscribers getting free access. Maybe that is why he as able to view it.

I am with skynet on this one. They should probably be after the shooter, not the witness. No wonder DC is so messed up, they try to arrest the witnesses instead of the criminals.

SO, someone gets blown away, right in front of you, what do you do? Whatever your answer is if it is not "I don't know", "Panic", or "run away", you are full of it. How do you process something that traumatic? You can't condemn a guy for not knowing what to do, he could have been in shock. One of the things you do in shock is act just like something didn't happen.
They should offer the guy immunity if he comes in as a witness. So they can catch the real criminal.

If you live in DC/Chicago/NY, you run away. If you live anywhere else, you pull your gun and hold the perp until the cops can arrive.

While I don't think it was right for the guy to not help, there are laws to protect bystanders in this kind of thing. The Good Samaritan Law allows for bystanders not to do anything, or to attempt to help and not be subject to related prosecution.

I don't know why the police are worried about finding him, they really can only use him as a witness...
