These other deals are paltry in comparison to what you save just by purchasing your new vehicle in Canada and importing it into the U.S.

I purchased my new car in Toronto and saved about US$5k. As this article explains, the standards are higher in Canada so they all meet the less stringent U.S. EPA rules, etc. There have been articles in Canadian papers (The Globe and Mail, for example) explaining that up to 10% of the Canadian market for cars represents U.S. resident purchases due to exchange rate differences. However, the Canadian dollar is strengthening now so who knows how long this situation will continue.

is that only for bmw's concerning the epa rules? How about other car manufacturers, are they the same car in US & canada?

I'd imagine it would be good for other manufacturers too...a lot of the cars on the road in America today were manufactured in Canada. If I'm not mistaken the Camaro and Firebird for the end of their run were put together in Canada. My '94 regal gs is from canada, and our '98 Windstar is from good ol' Canadia, so it should be the same automobile.

Mine was an Acura 3.2TL. Back in 2000, I think was told by Acura USA that the only differences were Canada required daytime running lights, temp in celcius, odometer in km, but I can't remember if the Canadian model has stronger or the same emissions quality.

I don't think anywhere in Canada has more stringent emission law than California. Only in California, you could get the SULEV cars! :D

My Hybrid has the sulev sticker. Still can't hit the HOV lane with it when alone though, but the NG civic and Electric Rav-4 can... B4st4rds!

I bet a lot of people who "supe up" cars would think it's cool to have their odometers in KMPH rather than MPH.

Unrelated to canada, but the 03 Accord 4cyl is a sulev. The v6 is ulev.

The canadian accord does come with features the US car doesn't, such as heated mirrors and engine block heater. US can't even get heated mirrors. I believe canada requires glass headlight covers not plastic.

just because a car is manufactured in canada does not mean that it is going to meet canadian standards. many cars are built in canada and then shipped directly to the US with no intention of them being sold in canada.
