I was ready to go to work this morning when there was a small obstacle blocking my path:

So now another day at home, all that's left to eat is some frozen burgers and the pets, but my wife won't let me cook them :(.

Sounds like Mr. Plow is out of a job. Say hello to the plow king.

LOL! They finally got a tow truck who took the job. The first two trucks showed up and refused. The third guy got them out but almost slid off the driveway too. At least I can finally leave the house. Good thing, because I was just about to marinate the cat.

what exactly does salt do again? i know ppl salt their driveways or wahtever, but wahts the scientific explanation for it?

And salt water has a lower freezing point than the unsalted variety, so it stays liquid longer instead of umm... freezing. Yeah.

Man... I wish I had some of that white stuff when I went to Running Springs this weekend. There was 0 zero zip ziltch snow on the ground. I don't go there for damn dirts and rocks that I can see anywhere.

Ah, no snow for me! While I love not having to deal with snow I do miss it, but not the cold weather that accompanies it.
As for the snow plows, in PA (Montgomery County, Lower Merion Township) we had the big dump trucks that salted the road as they plowed. Normally they ran in packs, with one truck taking the lead and then the second and third getting all the stuff the first one missed. It probably helped that I lived on a snow emergency route so we were never snowed in.
That truck that was stuck was the type that people owned for clearing their own driveways. I never did get one for my truck...but I always wanted one. If I ever move back to that area I will definitely have to have a winter vehicle with plow. :D

That's true... salt lowers the freezing point of water, so if you put salt on ice it melts. It takes the freezing point down (don't know exactly how much) but there is a point where is doesn't make a difference if it's TOO cold. However, I understand there are other chemicals that can take up the slack where salt leaves off.

Granular salt works to approx. 20 degrees F. Adding Liquid calcium will make it work down to 5-10 degrees F.

It looks like because he had the blade sharply angled to the left he may have hit a hard spot and it pushed him right over.
