Absolutely… on both counts! Kingston makes great memory. And ResellerRatings.com with over 1,000 customer reviews of this merchant, gives it a rating of better than 8 out of 10.

My first 512 stick is this exact one. If I got this one I'd be able to use the dual channel ddr on my mobo. I wish I had spare $75...

I just purchased from googlegear on like tuesday afternoon/evening.. The shipment came in the day after... they may have a bit more expensive prices.. but their shipping somewhat makes up for it.. most everything i see is shipped for 50 cents, or somewhere around there.. my motherboard was shipped 2nd day, for 50 cents.

and as for ram prices dropping.. prices of ram flucuate alot.. most likely, the prices are subject to change any time.. so if you think this is a great deal, jump on it.

It's a great deal... unfortunately it cost me more... it was bad ram... kept getting a paging error and would crash my system.

Cross-shipped with Kingston (lifetime warranty) and now everything is hunky-dory.

I've been eyeing this stuff for a little while... coincidentally, it is also Kingston 512MB DDR333 RAM for $75, but this is CL2 stuff with heat spreaders, though that'd just help it look nice. :)

:D Tempting huh? I just checked Googlegear and they have this same memory for $80.50 with free 2nd day shipping, which I think is probably comparable to the excaliberPC people unless they have really cheap shipping. I think the excaliberPC place is pretty good, I got the link from an anandtech post, but free 2nd day shipping is hard to beat:

http://www.googlegear.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80060-9

Excaliber also has a loooong blurb about their shipping... http://www.excaliberpc.com/how_we_calculate.php?osCsid=3fac10276a111f2254324b8aafd86c4b. in short, you'd probably pay ~5-7, so Googlegear looks like the way to go here.

****Googlegear now has the memory for $74 with free 2nd day shipping****

Just a question for you memory experts

Do you think it is worth paying $12 to go from 512MB PC2700 to PC3000?

I am specifically referring to the Kingston HyperX from the previous post. It is $74 for the PC2700 and $86 for the PC3000 and I'm not sure if it is worth the 12 bucks to go to PC3000.

Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert, but I'll venture to say that it all depends on your motherboard, what other memory you have, and whether you decide to overclock your memory or not. If you're not going to overclock it, then either get the fastest speed your motherboard supports or the speed your other memory is at; choose the slowest speed of the two. But if you are going to overclock, I'd lean a little more towards the PC3000 since you might be able to get a little more out of it.... unless it is PC2700 overclocked already.

i think lots of times the memory is just overclocked 2700 memory. ut if youre gonna overclock, just listen to what eugene wrote.. :)
