There is a guy locally who is selling his Charbroil Patio Caddie (http://www.charbroil.com/patiocaddie.htm) propane grill for $80, and I am trying to figure out if it is a good buy or not. He says he has had it for 3 years but has only used it for about 3 months of the time. I am curious as to how well this type of grill works. I had a friend once who had one, and it seemed like he was able to grill on it all the way to the edge of the grill, which would be nice. I know that the standard rectangular type grill costs atleast $200 for a new one, and so this would be a great money saver if I only had to spend 80 bones.
I will most of the time only be grilling for 2, but I would like to know that I could grill for a big group if I could. What do you all think?
Thanks. Sorry if this should have been in hardware ;)
hey man, you're already the grill master ;)
i dunno if it would improve on your wares. may make it easier for you tho.
btw, i doubt this one can compare with the rectangular one. those tend to have a series of racks and stuff for things like veggies and fish, and a larger grilling area. that one looks about the size of my old broiler, which was less than the circumference of your current one. out to the edge may be nice tho, and if you want gas that may be nice too.

Hehe thanks for the props mojo. You're right about the rectangular grill having a rack for veggies and whatnot, I forgot about that. What I am wondering is if this grill will be good enough to get the job done, until I move into a more permanent place. Basically I just want a grill that will allow me to grill up fish and chicken no problemo.
Any other people with the grill knowledge?

I know I've always bought grills in the fall, when places clearance them out. Of course, this may not apply to SoCal, where grilling is a year-round activity. The last grill I bought was selling for about $175, and I ended up getting it for about $70 at Target when it went on clearance. One thing I wouldn't pay a lot extra for is the extra burners on the sides--I've found that I don't use them much. I'd rather have a large grilling surface, with a second, higher rack, for stuff like veggies. I know that Sears clearances their grills off periodically, because they the new models in for that year...might be worth asking...

i'm a die-hard charcoal enthusiast. i just have a monstrous webber grill that holds a lot of charcoal. they're like $50 new, and the food tastes better.

yeah....in the fall, my local home-depot is always clearing out their grills.....
Also, you might want to keep on looking on penny savers....
there are some nice grills to be had for some good money.
My friend bought a weber genesis (older model), for 150 through penny savers.
he got new racks, and some briskets for about 40 bucks more, and he got a gril usually costing from the 400-500 range for 200 bucks.
they are definitely nicer, and as cheap as this one sounds...i don't know... electric????
just get the family foreman grill :P

Thanks everyone for the advice. This grill is not electric, it's propane, even though the link shows an electric version. Charcoal definitely adds a great taste, however it is such a production to get one going and I want to be able to grill every night if I could, just to real quick grill up some fish as part of my meal or something. So convenience is definitely a motivating factor.
I have looked quite a while in the Reader and Craigslist for used BBQ grills, and this was the first decent one I have found in a long time. I'm still up in the air about it.
Thanks for all your input so far.

I usually use lava rocks with my gas grill, its a compromise to the great taste of a charcoal grill. I also soak those wood chips that you can get at home depot and throw those in to give the food various flavors. However for great taste I am a firm believer of marinating when grilling. Anyone sharing marinating secrets?
