Has anyone had good luck backing up MP3's to CDR? DId you have some software that helped you do it?

I have about 8 gigs of MP3's on my old computer, and i want to put mandrake on that HD. THing is, i spend a lot of time cleaning up the ID3 tags and categorizing the MP3's. I was hoping for a prog that would copy files out of the directories (preserving the structure) and remember which fils have already been backed up. THX

Compressed into big files or left as mp3s on the discs?

TechTV had an artcile on this topic a week or so ago. Check out their web site. They claimed to have a freeware proggie that would parcial out the files into 650-700 meg sections.

I believe Iomega has cd-rom back up software for there new cdr's. As far as saving the mp3's I usually compress them with winzip first then save them to my cdr. I do this with all back up files.

Hey is your Kazaa ID "40 gigs of mp3s" or something? Cause whatever song I search for, Kazaa user, "40 gigs of mp3s" is always in the user list.

You can't be getting that much compression since MP3's are already compressed.... does it really make a difference?

You could always use Norton Ghost to back up the hard drive. There are options for no compression (high speed), low compression (medium speed), and high compression (low speed). The new version (2003) has the ability to write to a NTFS partion, and you can backup mapped network drives.

i did the same thing a few weeks ago. i just made a cd of as close to full i could get, burned it and deleted the files after it finished. you could just move them to another directory and then burn the next one or you could cut them into 700mb folders before you burn them, it might it easier to keep organized so you dont forget and lose track of what you just burned.
