hand the phone to evilgremlin. the poor bastards generally stay on the line for up to 5 minutes, convinced that a parent is going to come grab the phone any minute... even funnier is when tehy think they can talk that knothead into handing the phone to an adult. he's running around right now, yelling, "hello? hi! yes, i'm here! no, mom's not wanta talk to you! no, stop! stop talking! i gotta tell you this!"
it's nice to have finally found a way to waste THEIR time :D

I like to give them the old "Just a minute" then place down the phone without hanging it up and walk away. On the down side, you don't know how long they stay on the line.

I like to quiz them and ask random questions.

Heh, you could set up a service. People could transfer calls to the EvilGremlin Telemarketer Line.
I need an Evilgremlin... could I borrow him around evening meal times?

he'd love that... he loves to talk on the phone.
if you want him, he's going to be more of a nuisance than the telemarketers, tho... boy can't keep his attention on one thing long enough to get a fork full of food to his mouth before he talks or turns his head to look at something else ... plop, in the lap.
but if "mealtime" involves one of the 5 food groups (tacos, pizza, mac-n-cheese, chicken nuggets, and steak of any kind...) he's all yours.

Or just add Call Intercept (aka Privacy Manager) to your line like I just did and never have your phone ring for a telemarketer ever again. Since I've added it, I haven't had one telemarketing call and my friends who call me from places that have no Caller ID information can actually get me instead of my voicemail now. :D

I keep meaning to keep a copy of the Telemarketer CounterScript (http://www.xs4all.nl/~egbg/counterscript.html) near my telephone.
