okay, so we've been trying to come up with names for two or three months now, and we have a short-list, but nothing is really jumping out as the perfect first/middle combo. so, analyze, insult, suggest, and otherwise run your mouths, please!
bear in mind that they're boys, the last name is larson, and they have to live up to an older brother named "blaidd alexander larson."
parentheses contain heritage and meaning of name.
erik (scand, eternal ruler)
kieran/keiran (irish/scott, little pale green one)
oran (irish, dark)
fenris (scand mythology, wolf god - don't worry, it's only being considered as a middle name)
kai (scand, uncertain origin) - my favorite, prm can't quite take it... he says it's wierd infantile sound, and we might as well name the other one "goo."
eri (irish, genuine)
taran (welsh, lightning)
leif (descendant)
kormak/cormac (irish/engl, raven)
so far, the two combos that we like are oran kormak and leif eri, or oran kai and leif kormak. but after talking about it for half an hour last night, it all sounded the same and we gave up.
then, we could give them middle names from their grandfathers/great grandfathers... we have robert, richard, karl, jackson walter and charles fremont.
and then we could always throw in some last name that got lost due to marriage... poor prm is saddled with the middle name "hight" because it was his gramma's maiden name... making his pornstar name (middle name plus name of street he grew up on) "hight summit." :heh: that would give us ramirez, annis, petri, jones. (btw, i think this is always an awful idea... i have a friend that got named maureen dillon finke in this maneer. blech.)

Since you have blaidd, I'd go with Mace and Morningstar Larson.
Or you know, not.

that one almost put chunks of apple through my nose...
and reminds me that i do like the name bane. :dodgy:
and the first person (actually, it'd be the hundredth) to suggest "pete and repete" or "run and rerun" and think they're witty gets a dunce hat for the day.

Maybe that can help prm stomach the name a bit.

These names might sound good with "Larson:"
Davin - Scandinavian - Bright
Gavin - Scottish - White Hawk
Garrick - Teutonic - Spear King
Ulric - Danish - Wolf (you risk making him sound like a member of Metallica, though :P)
Wyatt - Old French - Guide

I have a friend whose name is Andrew Larson...seems to work for him.
As for interesting names......
Gil - knew a guy by this name...and interesting canadian...good guy
Guy - actually know of a few people with this name
Blake - more normal name, but still interesting - Erik Blake Larson would probably sound good, but what sounds good to you is probably different than mine.
Barthalamew (sp) - another interesting name
A couple of more normal names
Trent, Troy, Otto

don't like greek names... pretty much going to stick with germanic language roots. unless i finally stumble across a native american name that is easily pronounceable.
i do like gavin and ulric, but they didn't make the short list...
otto... heh... my dad's family is full of people who have nicknames because their real names are otto (aka "bus"), hermann ("skip"), aloisia (helen) etc. most germanic names are cool, but most germna ones just AREN'T. :P
thanks for the opinions, keep em coming!

what about Joe, or Bill, or....NAMES PEOPLE CAN PRONOUNCE (spl?)

Sorry, it's better to saddle a kid with a name that will bring him or her years of ridicule and taunting. Don't worry, though, the taunts and ridicule will build character.
We went the traditional route (Mary, Grace, Clare).

how low an iq are we talkin about here on the people that can't pronounce these one and two-syllable names? with the exception of kai, the pronounciations are screamingly obvious. (kai is pronounced with a long i, the name was anglicized as kay, as in sir kay of arthurian legend, please tell me that pronounciation doesn't require explanation.) i think you mean "names people have heard of a lot and are comfortable with..." and what about those is: i don't wanna.
and really, as much as people agonize over naming children, now matter how wierd or how conventional the name is, two days after someone gets to know that person, the name just becomes THEIR NAME - just a natural part of that person. not that knowing that is making me close my eyes and point to a random spot in the baby name book.

well, so far, all of blaidd's peers are awed by his name - not one kid has made fun of it yet. he's had dozens of kids, boys and girls of many different ages, tell him it's a really cool name ;)
