View Full Version : Is my network unsecure?

I have RoadRunner and have a phoneline LAN (Win2k). I use internet connection sharing to share RR from the main computer to the other two computers. The main computer has Norton Firewall installed, and have settings to prevent certain applications from accessing the web, most notably Microsloth applications.
On the main computer, the firewall acts just like you would expect. On the two "client" computers, tho, there's no restrictions at all. Any application can access the net. Since the internet connection is filtered through the main computer, shouldn't the client computers be subject to the firewall?
I am kinda worried that the client computers can be hacked because they seem to have no firewall protection.

I'm hoping that posting your IP won't be a big mistake! (I think look_ma was kidding) :)

First, I was kidding
2nd, dont post your ip.
3rd, when i pinged you it came up empty, but when i port scanned the ip I got a response on what ports were open. 1720 was open. So either you have it to not accept pings or your IP has already changed and this one is floating in the system. i didnt do anything deep or try to "hack" your machine, just use some cheasy *ss script kiddy programs that any newb can pick up.
If your still worried i got a linksys router i will sell you for 50 shipped, just PM me.

To be safe, you should have Norton firewall on every machine, or get yourself a hardware firewall to put in between your cable modem & your network. There's a cheap one in this thread. (http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57707)

I did think he was kidding, but I figure it's so easy to get someone's IP that it doesn't really matter? Oh well, thanks for removing the IP, GAM.
look_ma: I am getting a wireless router, but thanks for the offer.

If you have 2 firewalls it'll be VERY hard to hack in. Right now you have just a software firewall, you might want to go buy a $50 router just for the heck of it... It'll work wonders... well, you wont notice any difference but nobody will hack you =)
