Video: Is there a difference between low level (hardware) overclocking and driver level overclocking?

CPU: I've never OCed a cpu before, but since 3d applications love more fsb I've been thinking of bumping it up. I have an A7N8X and an AMD 2100+ The cpu has stock cooling. I'm not looking for a major OC here just a few fsb increases. Is there anything I should know about OCing the fsb that may have an effect on cpu speed? I wouldnt want to OC teh fsb only to slow down the cpu.

Overclocking the fsb will also increase the AGP and PCI bus speeds. I know with my Gigabyte 7VAXP, when I raise the fsb to 139 from 133, the AGP bus runs at 69mhz. I have a Radeon 8500 and have never had a problem at this speed. Everyting will depend on how far you push it and your set-up. You may also need to push the mem. (not agp) voltage up a step.

Clarify something for me...

The fsb on my board is 133 right now. If I were to crank it to say, 150, which I should be able to do without more cooling, is there any cpu issues that I should know about? I should be alright with the voltage on the agp, because asus aparently bumps it up a little bit stock.

Do not adjust your AGP voltage! With 150Mhz FSB, you might need to push the CORE voltage and MEM voltage up a little more. I used to run my AXP 1700+ @ 145Mhz FSB with no problem.

As I understand it, low level overclocking is more stable, but is somewhat less reversable. When I used RivaTuner, I only used low level OCing because driver-level never seem to stick. Now, I just use Coolbits for overclocking.
