Looking to sell my old system and upgrade mobo, case, processor...etc...

I currently have:

Epox 8kha+ mobo
AMD 2100xp @1.2
512mb crucial ram....PC2100...can't remember though
Adaptec 2940U2LVD controller card
100 gb Western Digital 8mb cache
30 gb Western Digital
GeForce 3 vid card
Pinnacle Pro-One RTDV for video editing

I am looking for Intel for stability with video editing, but could easily be swayed by AMD options as that is what I currently have and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Could I go Intel or AMD on a $600 or $700 budget that would include:

Radeon 9700 (or other card with TV Tuner capability)
Intel or AMD based motherboard
Fast CPU (2.4 ghz) but not an outrageous price
Case (full tower to accomodate video card and at least 3 to 4 hard drives
Power supply

All suggestions are appreciated..

Eric

background info Epox 8kha+ mobo is VIA KT266A chipset mobo
The memory is either PC1600 or PC2100 memory.

If you have PC2100 memory the cheapest thing to do is just upgrade the motherboard to an nForce 2 and run that AthlonXP 2100 at its full speed of 1733 MHz. AthlonXP 2100 is still a good performer. Going to a P4 2.4GHz would provide a small performance increase versus the Athlon XP 2100. Not worth it to do so imo.

Generally AMD cpus provide a better bang for the buck.

With the upcoming Radeon 9800, prices on the 9700 is bound to drop a bit. If you want the TV Tuner capability, well, I suppose you're going with the AIW, which is quite expensive. If you can wait a bit, wait. I think you will be able to get all that at around $700, but you would just have to be patient, and wait for a deal.
