Well the title says the main problem. Here are the details:

Yesterday I'm noticing it's taking a long time to be able to actually view my C:\ from the Windows Explorer, So i figured I would run ScanDisk on it, just because I hadn't run it since I had got my system up and running. So XP tells me that it needs to run it with some system files that I'm currently using, and would I like to have scandisk run the next time I reboot. I say ok. I immediately close all my applications, and restart my box (from Start | Shutdown | Restart) It reboots and POST's fine, the XP Pro logo comes up and Scan Disk starts running. Since it's late, I figure I will go to bed.

The next morning, Scan Disk is finished, and it's still in the Scandisk screen telling me this. So i hit <enter> nothing. I hit ESC. nada. I hit caps lock and number lock. No lights. hrmm. SO i hit the reset button on my computer. Now it's time to go to work, so I figure it should be good when I get home. Wrong. Same deal.

I try this method 2 more times, and both times my keyboard gets locked out before ScanDisk will let me skip over it. Bastige. So now, no matter what I can't get into WIndows. I've tried going to my XP disk, and doing a repair install. But it only takes me to the recovery console, and well i don't know what to do from there. I don't have a floppy drive. I can get to the screen where XP tells me that I might have had a problem rebooting and if i would like to go to safe mode, or start up normally, blah blah. But as soon as i hit a arrow key, the timer stops moving, and the cursor doesn't move at all. So... what should I do?

TIA

hit f8 during boot up i mean as soon as the memory ticks down or just before bios screne finishes and then you should see a boot memnu that will let you boot into safe mode try that and see if it will let your system boot then reboot and see if scandisk still starts if so then you will most likely have to edit your registery...

of if you left the roll back option on your pc then do the same thing with the F8 function key and tehn safe mode and a box pops up would you like to roll back to recovery point blah blah blah or something like that see if that works for you

f8 rocks.... i got to that screen that i would lock up on the arrow keys, but hitting F8 let me change them to the Last Known Good Working COnfiguration. W00t. thanks!
