Ok, maybe this is a really dumb question, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to be able to access a folder on a network. The folder I'm accessing is on a Win2k machine (my server) and I have the permissions correct, but when I remotely try to connect to that folder I gave permissions to, I don't get in.

Any helpful hints as to what I am doing wrong/missing?

Oh, and the network I'm working is has no routers...it is the ATT/Comcast network...I'm using IP addys.

Using IP addys? Ya mean each individual computer has its own static IP or....

Did you make sure that each computer is within the same workgroup? I usually set mine to WORKGROUP. On XP Home edition, and I think WinME, its usually set to MSHOME by default. Do you have the same user name on both systems?

Yes, each has its own static IP. I can search for the computer by IP in Start -> Search, and I see it there, but I am not able to connect as it will not accept any permissions that I can think of. I set myself up with an administrator name and password, but it will not work.

Do you have NetBeui installed on both machines?

I do not, what exactly is that used for? Never had to use it before....or at least I didn't think I was utilizing it.

The error that it is giving me is this:

\\theip is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this nework resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network name cannot be found.

Is your server setup to be a DNS server for your network?

No, it is not a DNS server, and no, I don't have NetBeui set up on both machines. The machine I'm conneting to does had NetBeui.

Ok I think these are my last two questions :D. Is the server a DHCP server and are you using a domain (is it a domain contoller)?

Negative to both questions

Ok I just had this big long reply written out and then went back and read your initial post. You don't actually have a computer running Win 2k Server or Advanced Server, do you?

No, it's just Win2k standard. Since I can find the computer on the network, I don't think it's anything outside the server permissions or something like that. I'm pretty sure that I have permissions set up correctly, maybe I'm just not using them correctly.

Just install netbeui on both machines and try that before you dig any deeper.
