I got the deal from Staples, and mine is the Lite-on model. Its working fine, but I have a few issues so I was hoping somebody could help me out.
I have a Creative 52x CDROM as the primary master on the first onboard IDE controller (Soyo board, 1.3 duron) and the LiteOn 52X CDR as the primary master on the secondary IDE controller. Each device is the only one on each ribbon. The pc boots (winxp pro) from a Promise ATA controller card.
I installed the LiteOn and then installed Roxio 6. I 'archived' the original Roxio CD (470mb or so)on my first burn. By default Roxio will cache the source disc if the read/write speeds aren't close enough...so I let it do that...it pulled from the Creative at 11x, kind of dissapointing. But when it went to burn it started at about 6x and climbed until it was finished, ending at 46x....crazy fast. This is on Sony CDR media (40x rated.....).
BUT, since then all the burns have been around 9x-11x...this is either disc copy (caching, no caching) and burning data and music from either network or local drives. Burning from the harddrive did actually speed it up, to about 22x...but still inconsistent.
I checked the modes, and the Creative was DMA 2 and the LiteOn was in PIO mode...I switched them both to DMA and then to PIO, trying to find the right combination but no luck.
I haven't upgraded the firmware and I might try that...but I am out of ideas.
Duron 1.3, 512MB Crucial 133, Soyo board, both CDROMS are on 'round' 80pin ribbons, not standard IDE ribbons (the drive came with a standard ribbon).
Any help would be cool. Thanks
Sean

so i haven't had these problems. but i use nero for everything and suggest that. it has become the only burning program i trust and pay for. and my cendyne actually came with a oem copy for the lite-on only. but since i have two cd-r's i still use my real copy.
So my cendyne drive is a LTR-55246S model. So i promptly downloaded the latest firmware from lite-on's site for that model and updated it (this is up to you). i also made sure dma was set on the drive and that i had the latest ide bus-master drivers from via (for my epox 8k7a+).
so far, nero hasn't complained about anything and can burn at 52x on my 52x media. i would say that if roxio is burning 46x on 40x media, you will see problems sooner or later.
so i suggest trying another burning program.
