Hey Yall,
What are the hottest chipsets for the dual xeon computer setups? I'm VERY new in the HIGH end computer world... can anyone give me their insights...
thanks
I'm currently on the E7505 chipset.
- Dual Intel Xeon processors with 533 MHz system bus provides up to 4.3 GB/s of available bandwidth.
- Dual DDR266 memory channels provide up to 4.3 GB/s of memory bandwidth.
- The direct attach AGP 8X port provides 2.1 GB/s of graphics bandwidth directly out of the MCH.
- The Intel® Hub Interface 2.0 connection allows high-bandwidth I/O configurations; exceeding 1.0 GB/s of I/O bandwidth.

Leon.. how much do these chipsets go for? I know currently our place sets up I860 chipsets.. Supermicro boards cost about $560 for us...
Thanks
E7505 mobo's start at about $370 or so, and go up from there depending on brand, features, and store.
I'm on the same one as Leon, with built in U320 SCSI RAID (LSI logic chipset), Firewire, 6 USB 2.0 ports, AGP 8x Pro 110, 10/100/1000 NIC, etc.

What's the exact board you guys are running? How much are they going for?
Thanks Apex

Keep in mind that the Xeons all have hyperthread technology built in today as well...
If you want to use hyperthread w/dual Xeons, that will show up as 4 processors to the OS - you'll need a server OS to see that many (XP Pro will only support 2 procs). So, either keep HT off or tear into that new copy of W2K Server.

Very interesting... I'll add that to my brain for future use...
What OS are you guys running... (apex and leon)
I'm on WinXP Pro. But the OS does detect 4 processors. Like in my Windows Task Manager under Performance, there are four CPU usage history graphs.

WinXP supports 2 physical processors, 4 logical. It works fine.

It's a Dell Precision 650.

Mmmmm, Xeon... The coolest machine I've had my hands on is an 8 Processore Compaq Proliant at work. Mind you that's 8 XEONs. Mmmmm.

Oh, cool deal. I didn't think they were differentiating between logical & physical...

You sure you have HT enabled in bios?

Did that... I'm wondering if there's somewhere ELSE in the bios where I have to enable it or something. HT is on in the bios...
