Personal Firewall

Recently I'm looking for personal firewall and according to PC World, ZoneAlarm Pro and Sygate Personal Firewall Pro are both highly rated. Does anyone have anything to say about those two or any other firewall application they use?

Zone Alarm is alright, personally I prefer Black Ice. Really though, if you're running XP, you can turn on it's native firewall under LAN connection properties, advanced, check the box that says "protect my computer from the internet" or something like that.

Also, if you have a router, the ports being blocked should suffice as well.

All my systems are running Win2k. Is there any native firewall builtin already? Thanks.

nope.

I personally am using PC-Cillian's personal firewall, because it comes with a real time virus scanner and a bunch of other nice little features.

I liked Zonealarm Pro when i had it, very nice, lots of good features.

And to be honest, I wouldn't touch the crappy winxp native firewall.

/me stays behind his router's hardware firewall, and his computer software firewall... can't be too careful :)

I've been using the Black Ice product for a couple years now without any problems. And now in the corporate environment we are deploying their enterprise technology. ISS (Internet Security Systems) bought the Black Ice a while back and from what I've read ISS is probably tops when it comes to Intrusion Detection.

Anyways, my home pc sits behind a router which provides most of the protection and then I'm running BlackICE.

i use norton personal firewall 2003...has an ad blocker and pop up blocker and works good for me

I use this also and it works perfectly.

Yep, that's why I only use the corporate editions that are still One time fee licenses.

I used the free version of Zone for several years with no problems..it did a great job. The only reason I don't use it now is because I have a router/firewall.

And just based on what I've seen, I wouldn't even bother with XP's built in firewall, except to turn it off.

hmm I never thought about that actually! I've just concentrated on incoming, not outgoing. I may fire ZA back up after all...

I've been using Sygate Personal Firewall Pro for couple days and ran some tests on various websites. It's good stuff!

How about the resource usage between ZA and Sygate? I've read some reviews saying ZA tends to occupy more resource than other firewall application.
