A SCHEME BEING IMPLEMENTED by Office Depot – almost certainly at Microsoft's behest – means that companies that fail to join a logo scheme will find their XP products won't appear on store shelves unless they've been certified by Redmond.
Only products that conform to Microsoft's Designed for Windows XP rules and carry its logo will be sold in Office Depot after May this year, the INQUIRER has discovered. (See memo at the foot of this article). These rules apply to both software and hardware products, and suppliers have been given a deadline to either include the Microsoft logo or see their products disappear off the shelves.

And if Office Depot is implementing this scheme in the USA, you can bet your bottom dollar the other retail outlets will also come under pressure to toe the Microsoft logo line.

utter crap... :disa:Link (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=8472)

This seems like a bad business decision to me. Now their customers will just have to go to their competitors.

I wonder how much Microsoft is paying Office Depot to do this.

This is dumb and short sided. However, rarely do normal consumers buy computer stuff there, so they're bilking corporations, which isn't so bad.

I don't know if I believe this article. Think about it, Microsoft is JUST NOW settling the antitrust cases that its been fighting for years.

This would be likely to send up another round of them.

I think it has enough money to keep this potential new round tangled up in courts for a few more years. In the interim, 3rd party and non-logo'ed products should suffucate and die waiting for the courts to settle this logo scheme. Makes sense right? Right or wrong...if I can outlast my competition even though I'm wrong, by the time it's settled your company will either be dead or dying for cash.

Rat bastard microsoft.

I can't remember the last time I, or anyone I know, has ever bought anything computer related from Office Depot.

Office Depot, Staples, and Officemax do put up some good deals. Over he last year there were several occasions where they had products that when combined with coupons and rebates were pretty nice deals. I got my DVD Rom there for like $25 or so. I also seem to remember good deals on hard drives and occasionally on memory.
